Default Plasticote 208 vs Bill Hirsch equivalent

Anyone have an idea how these two engine paints compare colorwise?
Thx in advance for any feedback.

Unfortunately, Plasti-Kote paint was discontinued a few years ago. https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...d.php?t=840655

Duplicolor 1610 isn't the correct color. The best thing you can actually do is take a valve cover or other component with some original paint still on it and take it to an ACE hardware store and have them scan it and then mix up some oil based paint for you. Some have the ability to also put it in a spray can I think but most do not so you will need a compressor and gun to shoot it. ALL of the commercial paints, including Hirsch, will burn off of the exhaust bosses on the heads and heat crossover on the intake, no matter what they claim, so the oil based mix from ACE hardware is as good as anything out there.

Not trying to be contrary here at all but, my current motor was built in 2019. It has the correct appearing metallic blue color for '70. I don't know what brand paint they used but I seriously doubt they did anything special, it was a very basic/economy build. Probably just whatever rattle can they found. I have only a slight discoloration around the center exhaust ports with no hint of peeling. For full disclosure, It has only about 1500 miles since the rebuild. Maybe over time that would change, don't know, but I would think if it was gonna burn off it would have happened by now? I wonder how much prep has to do with it? I'm using the Bill Hirsch paint on the new motor.

I think the Plastikote 208 is for '65 and earlier Pontiac engines. Don't know if this would have a bearing on durability. Definitely not the same as the '70 metallic blue.

The car is a 1960, so I know which color I'm looking for. I have some of the Plasticote 208 on the engine now and I have some left unused, but not sure if I'll have enough for some work I have planned. Not really all that concerned about the paint discoloring on the crossover btw.

Butler is showing this as their recommended replacement for Plasticote 208. Not sure how your match would be. I would think Hirsch would be the best option though although their usually a little glossier than Plasticote was..

If I needed metallic blue I would blow the bucks to get Eastwood’s ciramic Pontiac blue.

It’s 67 bucks a Qt and you have to spray it, but it stands up to 650 F.
If you first spray on a coat of high heat Aluminum header paint it should hold up a dam long time!
