Dealer emblem
Did you delete or keep the original dealer emblem, that is usually located on the trunk lid, when restoring or repainting your Tempest? We elected to remove the emblem and fill in the holes, but kept the emblem for the glove box. The piece was pretty pitted as shown in the attachment.

I don't have an emblem like that, but the old Bonander Pontiac, Turlock CA license plate frame will definitely be going back on when it is all together.

Tape it on, maybe. Unless it was a historically significant dealership, I'd leave it off.

Historically Significant
Last summer, in a bar in upstate NY, I ran into the son of the man I bought my original Tempest from in 1962.
His father had the dealership since the thirties, (until "obama took it away from us"). He took it over in 1963 - it was the only Pontiac dealership for miles around. We were reminiscing about families, the sixties, local history and all things Pontiac. (He remembered repairing my Tempest when I plowed through a herd of deer in '64, - took out three of them). I mentioned the the old style "Roche Pontiac" dealership emblems. I said that occasionally, over the years, I'd spot one in NYC and in various places around the country and it always gave me that *'green green grass of home' feeling (*- Porter Wagoner/1965). He said "hell, I have a bunch of the old ones in a file cabinet in my office" (it's a GMC Truck dealership now) stop by sometime and I'll give you some". Next time I had 'Old Blue' out I headed up to Callicoon NY and he gave me a half dozen brand spanking new old stock circa 1963 dealer stickers. 'Historically significant'... to me at least. P.S. I didn't bother to tell him that back in '62, the day the car was delivered, I peeled off that sticker, ("No advertising... a clean look" for me too, back then! Hey time changes people too).

Hmm, for personal historic significance, I'd consider one from San Angelo. I spent a decade there one year.

Royal didn't use a small emblem; they used a license plate frame.
I'm sure if they used a die cast Dad would have pitched it, as he always pulled the stickers off too. K

My Grand Prix didn't have anything on it when I got it, but I had these made based on a "ghost image" that you could see in the chrome.

My '62 Tempest Lemans was purchased at Wilkins Pontiac in Van Nuys, CA in late 1961 by the parents of the guy I bought it from. It was driven very little throughout its life and has only 40,000 miles on it. Only seen one Wilkins Pontiac plate frame on Ebay and someone beat me to it! Today, it's a Kia dealership. Love it when old cars still have the old dealership emblems.

I have never been a fan of dealer advertising on any vehicle. If I purchase a new vehicle that already has it on like dealers tend to do with their inventory, the first thing I do when I get home is get out the hair dryer and remove it. However, having been in the business I do have one dealer tag that I treasure. Our Pontiac Buick dealership was in business from 1949 to 1982. Our dealer tag changed several times over the years. The attached shows the one we used in the 60s. It is NOS and what you see in the photo are reflections due to the shiny finish. I put 2 adhesive magnets on the back and stuck it on my LeMans in local car shows since many show attendees do remember our dealership.

Nice one Keith!
Dealer emblems were substantial pieces! In the early fifties I lived in NYC, and there were endless examples of them on the cars in my neighborhood. Block letters, script or logos, some of them looked like they were just slapped on the easiest spot on the car. They were pretty close to eye level for me back then, so I was very aware of them. Some seemed to be put on with consideration of the look on the car, others not so much. I thought it a desecration, putting a generic one-size-fits-all dealer's emblem on the back of some cars. Adding injury to insult, most of the emblems back then were attached by drilling holes in the trunk lid. If I happened to be at the back of a car with the trunk opened, I remember investigating the rest of the story to see how where and why they were attached as they were. I disliked those things so much that when I bought my first car, a 1955 Ford Sunliner, one of the first things I did was to remove the emblem, fill the holes and repaint that trunk lid. When our '63 Tempest was delivered in '62, I was glad to see that the dealer emblem was not a screw on, but one of the new style - cheesier looking but on the plus side, they were stickers. (That one came off the first day I think.) Today, like everything else, I look at them differently. They can add place, time and history to a car. On or off the car I consider them, as well as license plates, frames, dealer signs, car-club plates knick-knacks, photos etc. memories of a by-gone era... collectibles in their own right.

Is that Meadows in Portland, or Seattle (I can't read what's below the "Meadows")? My parents bought my 66 GTO from Bud Meadows in Seattle. My car never had a dealer emblem (it had two license plate frames - I have pictures of it when new, and I have one license plate frame on it now), but I have an emblem off of a 67 GP I parted years ago.....
