I have my trailer in my fenced yard. The tongue is locked with a lock. Most times it is locked on
My truck in the back yard. Having someone around the place 24-7 also helps! In fact we are both armed! All of the stored cars have the battery disconnected or have no battery in them. My show car is locked in my garage without a battery installed.

http://www.greatsouthernsecurity.com/spytrack.htm After all the hard work and big $$$ put into our cars, GPS tracking seems to make sense. One can put a device into play for as little as $400 or up to $6,500. The more sophistocated units actually portray in realtime exactly where a vehicle is in reference to a built in map. There are units that can be hard wired or battery powered and can be mounted practically anywhere inside a trailer or car. Some services are as little as $9.99/Mo. for the cellular support and the software is supported by most computers with OS built within the last few years. I have no personal interest in the industry and learned of this for a different application. -Matt [ June 06, 2002, 09:46 PM: Message edited by: 78 GHOST ]

I'm thinking of building a device that will charge the vehical metal serfaces to about 30,000 volts with enough capacity to knock a grown man to the ground. Don't know if it would work on a rainy day though ???

Not to be naive about the subject but, How effective are devices such as the club or the removable steering wheels? How easily are these and similar devices defeated?

Saw a 20/20 type show a few years back. A car thief was able to get the club off a steering wheel in about 1 minute. Two hacksaw cuts and viola! Duck tape the raw ends and there you go!

I was a repo man a few years ago and if I couldn't tow a car I would get a key made for it (you can get a key for most new cars with nothing more than a vin #) bypassing most anti theft devices is simple, I couldn't cut a steering wheel to remove a club so I had a tool called a club buster (www.clubbuster.com) worked every time in just seconds. basically if someone really wants your car they will get it, you just gotta slow them down enough to get out the door with a 12 gauge. when I stopped working as a repo man I started working for Honda in a bad area I was a vandalism repair specialist (repairing theft recovery's) and let me tell you some of the ways they got some of these cars was amazing, if these people put their minds to something good they could probably cure cancer.

Nice to think about -- illegal as Hell. If anybody gets hurt, not only will you be subject to criminal penalties you are also liable in civil court. So, not only may you wind up in jail with a felony record, you could wind up having to sell all your goodies to pay off the alleged bad guy after he sues you for all you're worth. You see, setting a deadly trap requires MALICE AFORETHOUGHT... |

Anybody know anything about the "powerlock" device? Supposedly mounts directly onto your starter and requires the correctly coded keyfob to allow the car to start. They state that their system is impossible to hot-wire.

It's old school, but on my '68 I just removed the wire from the coil to the center distributor post. I put back on a dummy one to protect the holes, but there is no electrical conductor in it.
On the newer cars, that's a little harder to do :-) Mike M

me and abuddy a few years ago designed a "alarm" system for my 72 GS conv , that worked somethin like this , .. have a typical alarm with say a 30 sec delay on it , but instead of power a siren after the delay is up it would activate the heater/ac blowers at high speed and pump either tear gas or mace in to the vent system, giving the would be thief a serious dose of agony ,,,, but we found that"booby trapping" a car was illeagl go figure ??

My friend put a toggle switch under the inner fender and hooked it up to the horn through the dome light switch, so when you open the door the horn would come on.
At least you could run outside with the shot gun. |

Some great ideas here.
How good are the clubs that go from the brake pedal to the floorboards? They definately seem better than the steering wheel type.

A friend had his wheels stolen last night while at a Tranny shop. He had Pro Stars and MT DR's, the factory alarm does not have a shock sensor.
I have a perimeter alarm on my truck, I have it adjusted so that you have to be touching the truck for it to "warn" you with a beep. It keeps people from taking anything from the bed, or reaching in the windows, plus they can't get close enough to disable anything. |

I have Ruger and Smith & Wesson
Ruger is the boxer and Smith & Wesson are the 2 Shepherds. Smith & Wesson are extremely protective of me and the property......they dont miss a thing. They have a list of kills and the list keeps growing. |

S&W
Colin,
Where did you get Smith & Wesson? We've been looking for a Shepherd since ours passed away & can't find a breeder that we like. Too many dogs bred to the AKC standard instead of a good "West German" looking dog. Please pm, post or email the name of your breeder if you don't mind. Mark |

Deadbolt setup inside my doors. Flip the remote switch & the actuators throw 3/8" bolts from the door into the doorjamb. Also, mounted a kill switch inside the door jamb (made a recess inside the plastic vent). ONce the doors are bolted, you can't get to the switch.
