Lloyd:
Were those photos of the Red SD take at Gay Pointiac as well? My 2009 GXP came from that dealership which I understand had some real racing history with Pontiac. BJ

The Gay family and dealership were indeed very active on the local scene for quite some time. Even went National for a period of time in the late 80s. Here's a link to Bob and John's Pontiacs-online page with some historical info and photos . . . http://pontiacsonline.com/Don%20Gay.htm I'd forgotten that your GXP came from Gay!

Lloyd I think that SD was an ISCA Grand Champion in the restored class long before anyone was restoring 2nd gen f-bodys to that level. Whatever became of this SD?
I remember seeing his red one at a show in Dickinson many years ago......parked in the spectator parking!

Looks nice but notice the exhaust is not GM and wonder where that came from? No resonators either. Metal Valance was used and no emissions decal on the rad support. The front looks pretty high from this angle but the paint looks killer for sure.
Do you have any pictures of the motor compartment??? |

Your comment about the lack of resonators is apparently correct though. I suppose the OEM system must have been damaged when it was wrecked? You are aware that GM parts just serviced the '74 pipes? It sat perfectly when on the ground, but Mike had various levels of blocks to set the car on for show display, plus as you can see he has the LF wheel of to display the brakes and suspension and that really messed with the way the car sat.

The GM system is flat in some transitions however that front right tire does hide allot of pipe.
Being jacked up must explain some of the gap between tire and fender? More pictures available ??? |

Brewster was looking in the mirrors at the seemingly larger and seemingly fabricated pipes. I wouldn't complain, and he probably isn't either. He's just bench-judging.
Looks like a NICE system. We all know the story on the metal valances. My 73 had a metal replacement. Tried to inform the guys it needed a plastic one back on it. And that repo's were available now/then. Shop owner had a similar mileage B.Grn 73 455 with a metal replacement. He swore his was original and correct. Told him yellow turn signals meant plastic valance - as one clue. But they restored it with the metal valance anyway. I'm not complaining - just bench judging. And i'd never seen a 73 with the Pontiac decal on rear spoiler. But the car is Most Definitely Primo now. And so is this Green SD. The valances are what a lot of us look for on most 72's and all 73's. We can't help ourselves. |

And please - I didn't mean to come off so harsh to you, Brian. That was indeed a VERY poor choice of words . . . and I apologize.
I do recall, at several of the Houston Autoramas, Mike under his BG car, scrubbing, cleaning and fussing around. Same as I used to do on my '75, only 100 times more . . . Any way - back to the exhuast - as Mike was prepping the car, every year, I watched him working tirelessly along the entire length of that exhaust system, polishing it with finer and finer wads of steel wool . . . The thought never crossed my mind that it might not be a GM system. I need to ask him - he'll recall . . .

And yes - being jacked up definitely made the fender to tire gap all fudged up.

In the magazine article Lloyd posted, they talk of the exhaust on the TA and don't mention any resonators.
Early builds not have them possibly?

They only built '73 SD's for a couple or three of months, right? Like June thru August? And then they dropped the resonators on the '74 SD's . . .
