Here is my question, I am looking to upgrade from a 2bl to a 4bl carb and my first question is will I need a trans kick down by going to the 4bl? I currently have a 2sd powerglide in it now and will down the road upgrade to a T-400, which brings me to Part2 if I don't need one for the P.G.will I need one for the 400?

Yes, you'll need a kick down cable. The TH350/400 use a cable to mechanically actuate the downshift function of the tranny. There were two ways of connecting the downshift cable; one was to connect it to the carb the other was to connect it directly to the accelerator pedal. My TH350 came out of a mid 70's Buick Century and that is how the kickdown cable was routed. The original 2 speed SuperTurbine 300 (please don't call it a PowerGlide) used an electric switch for this function. The ST300 is the precourser to the TH350 and is basically a TH350 minus first gear. The TH350 is a lead pipe cinch to swap; it is idenitcal in all exterior demensions to the ST300.

THM400 uses a switch to activate the kickdown, just like the ST300.

Pontiac put the kick down switch on the gas pedal bkt under the dashboard for the th-400. Check the junk yards, also B&M transmissions has one that mounts under the hood to your throttle linkage.

Joe, it's a '66 Tempest, right? Is your kickdown right now mounted on the carburetor or the gas pedal? You will have to worry about the crossmember mounting when you get to putting the THM400 in.

Ok, if I just swap the 2bl. for a 4bl. for now will I need anything other than intake and carb? (yes I know gaskets etc) My concern is will I need a different kick down other than the one thats under the dash for the 2bl.? Thanks for the help.

The only other thing I can think of is the carburetors throttle linkage.
