I would agree with you. They are two different cars and are not restored the same way. When Steve and I talked about doing my car we had a certain way we wanted it done. There are still some things on my car that we would like to improve but thats always the case. Its never done. Still both cars are to nice to drive.

That is a great list of cars. One thing the author doesn't mention about the SD was how the whole gross vs net power figures distorted the ratings as well.

Let's see how high it gets, the more the better. |

I never understand why people get in the high HP "mode? and High CR mode when a builder gets an engine and starts telling them to "do this". Even if that car was put back together, its HARDY driveable the way the engine was built... Another great example.> NJSteves 72 Formy 455.
So many projects, and cars are ditched because of poor driveability, and stupid money spent, and continues to this day in the "Steet" section when a new guys asks opinion on his "build" , and few ARE honest with themselves about their cars use... |

Just plain ignorance, they start with a little modification from stock and don't know when to stop. And like you say, later they get tired of the car's street performance that it ends up sitting for a long period of time, and they eventually lose interest in it. Fairly common.

Let's see a .030" overbore = 465 CID? I thought that was a .040" overbore.

Here is a SD455 (clone) ? The car is presented well but SD clone??? How do they figure its a SD455 is the question I ask. Internals hmmmmm, does that mean a SD gasket was used???

I went to the auction here in Houston and looked at the car. Nice but had a few issues, still not a bad price though.
As far as clones go, I built a '73 t/a back in '93. The engine was a SR SD455 backed by a 4 speed. Long story short, the car went exchanged hands a few times after i owned it and eventually ended up in Arizona sometime between 2003-04. 10 years past and have no clue where the car is today. I expect it to surface someday as it left a lasting impression on the friends who owned it after me. A real SD455, 4speed and 3:90 rear gear is a recipe for pure pontiac excitement. |

It was white with standard saddle interior. I bought it from Larry in '96, it was a beast! It was a factory stripper; 455, hood bird, color keyed seat belts and tinted glass were the only options as I recall. PHS looked like a blank sheet of paper! Larry set it up right, think I got 13.2s @108 with no traction. Very fun car on the street too! Kinda like the girl from across town, you could tear it up without any guilt of hurting a nice one(SD).
