Does anyone know where I can get a new vacuum switch for my 1974 GTO hood scoop?

Are you referring to the Solenoid that pulls open the flapper door? If yes, PY part# RFE133A.

If you are referring to the black plunger switch that mounts on the carb bracket, use py # RFU02.

Thanks, Keith

I think 74goatboy is looking for the round switch with 2 vacumn fittings going to it. If thats what you need let me know and I'll look and see if I have any extras from any cars I've parted out!!!

Keith, you'll be depressed to find out how few parts are available for the 74 GTO from ANY supplier, including PY. I can tell you where I've had luck on specific parts if you want to email me. Many of my parts have been located going down the X-body route on Ebay.

Chris, '74 gto' is right on the money. I'm not sure how it worked on T/A's, but on the 74 GTO, power is available to the flapper solenoid as soon as the engine reaches operating temp. The vacuum switch is also in this circuit, but the switch is held open while vacuum is present and closes at loss of vacuum, i.e. full throttle. (I know... it's more info than you wanted to know - sorry)

Thanks for the reply Dan! I will let you know if I am looking for something and cant find it! My two main concerns are the lenses to the turn signals in the grills and a taillight panel, as mine is pretty rusted out for the second time! I fixed it myself by making patches the first time but would like to replace the panel altogether this time to get rid of the rust! I guess I am gonna have to go the slavage route, as usual!
thanks again, Keith

Keith, were you looking for good condition lenses for the grilles? I thought you wanted reproduction or NOS?

Well, I guess I may have to settle for good used ones since I can't seem to find any in the other forms! I just bought a good set of used grilles but I would like to keep them as spares and get good lenses for the ones I have on the car! I guess I am gonna have to break down and buy a parts car or two and cut them up!(non GTO x-body of coarse!)

When I checked last spring for 74 GTO parts, there was a salvage yard that had some 74s on hand in Oklahoma. Place is called East West Auto Parts,Inc. in Tulsa phone them and see what they can do for you --- they even ship parts to your door. 1-800-447-2886 or e-mail them

www.pontiacpart.com

So that you have an idea of their pricing, they wanted $175 + s&h for the shaker off a 74 GTO.
