Default $650 for a trans am hood?

I have been looking for awhile now for a 70-76 trans am hood, I just found one on craigslist local but the guy wants $650 for it. Is this the going price of these things? I may just go for the VFN glass after all.

I just sold one a while back on ebay & it went for $360 which is about the average $$ I think.

Shipping is the bigger cost sometimes on larger items like this. If you can find one local that's your best bet.

It also depends on condition and if it's an early or late style hood and like Steve said the shipping can be a killer, to sheet metal and the pocket. I remember buying 'em new at the dealer, IIRC about 250-300 in the early to mid 80's.

Dang I'd really like to have a metal one, but the only one around me is overpriced.

Default CHiPs Hood in Bay Area

I have a nice CHiPs (Corvette Summer) style hood in your area. It would look great on your car and I could let it go in for a price in your budget. PM me if interested.

I'm not familiar with that style, I couldn't find any images on google. I already have the complete shaker assembly also....another reason I want a trans am hood.

He's talking about a Formula hood that's been cut open for a T/A shaker- maximum "scoopiness", I guess (Although some part of me still finds them appealling).

Ooooo I'd be fine with that...is it an original formula hood or aftermarket glass? I'd be ok with either as long as its decent.

As JC455 said, an original GM OEM Formula hood with a TA shaker. You have the drama of both the classic dual Formula scoops and the visual impact of the rocking TA shaker. Add the flaming bird, and you have the ultimate Firebird hood. I wouldn't put one on a matching numbers 455HO, but for a modified bird, it is awesome.

Talking

It does have a sweet Red over Saddle color combo!

The hood you can have. I guess I'm too much of a stocker kind of guy for that set up.

my opinion leans towards Bob's...
I would never advocate that a formula hood be cut up...

Then again, that Corvette summer car was kinda cool. (I think that adding a TA bird to ta formula hood is just too much)

The Corvette Summer car was cut up in the 70's or 80's.... everybody cut them up then.

I think $650 for a nice, norust, no real work needed early TA hood is a fair price, I must like throwing money away, because I often see values estimated here as low.... everyone wants a deal and that's human nature, but this stuff is old and rare and half of the stuff out there is ratty. And the big variable is clean vs needing work. A ratty one is a lot of time and $ to get nice, if metal work needed. I think you won't get a big $ on ebay for one, because people subtract shipping in a way in what they offer..... you have to put it up against what you could buy one in person for.....

And in todays economy, I would flash him 5 hundred dollar bills and you have 50/50 odds of owning it right there...........
