Then the the bore surface is etched to remove the aluminum from the surface and expose the silicon for the rings to run on. Some of the coating experts can possibly chime in on the possibility of surface treating the bores.
For our nitro application, cylinder damage IS going to happen. Saving the block and getting it back in service fast was a major driver in our change to this block. The additional benefits are better cooling, elongation without cracking, thicker cross-sections throughout.
yup, I thought that of you guys since you started. Never liked, or used, the idea of an expensive iron block for a fuel engine. Looks like a wise move in the right direction and a nice piece Still a casting though but, a step in the right direction.

Good to hear from you Steve. We always liked the idea of an aluminum block but the water jacketed version just didn't look like it had enough cross-section in several critical areas. A billet block would have been great but our budget and time frame just wouldn't allow it. When the possibility of an enhanced IA block, poured without water jacket cores, and the heat treat and then later the HIP process, that put us over the top. It's still a casting, but a really nice one, poured by the same foundry who casts Donovan blocks. Lots of experience there. Really hope it works out for us and it even "Looks like a Pontiac". That's a subtle but important bonus to us. Still can use the Moon Pontiac timing cover, a Pontiac valley cover, Pontiac valve covers , head bolts, lifters, bore centers in stock locations. Good luck with your museum.

Will the beefier backbone in the valley find its way to the water jacketed block in the future?

It very well could.

We have another 20 casting in the works right now. 14 ship to customers last month.

We only cast 4 all out blocks
Last time.

We try to be proactive with our products.

So if the market likes the change. We could make it on all blocks.

Everyone is welcome.

We started this because back in 2003 because no one had built an after market casting for a Pontiac with success. AP picked up the molds from Dick Ducklow and took the Pontiac community from a hobby to a industry. We were first with the forge crankshafts and many other products.

I give Frank Gostyla the major credit in getting this done. Without him we all would be racing Pontiac's with A Chevy motor. When you see him give him the thanks, he is too modest to take the credit .

I doubt I will see Frank in the near future, but I do appreciate what you guys are doing for the Pontiac brand. Hopefully you are making a profit too, assuring the long run. Thanks to both of you.
