Default 1964 Grand prix steering

Hi, I have a 1964 Grand Prix with a 389.
The steering arm is hitting the oil pan/ drain plug And it has dented the oil pan in, not enough for it to leak but i would like to correct the steering so that it is where it should be.
Is anyone else having this problem or have any ideas on how to fix it.
Thanks

No experience with the car in question but I would check motor mounts for sag, deteriation, etc

I own a '64 GP and though I have not driven it yet (I'm in the process of restoring it), I have not seen this problem with my car. Even before the car was taken apart and even after replacing all of the steering/suspension system, I did not have any issue with the steering arm contacting the oil pan.

I think the other reply about worn engine mounts or suspension/steering parts is playing a role in that issue. Good luck and let us know what you find.

Ok thanks, do you know how close the steering arm is to the oil pan on your GP? when you have the wheels straight. Or turned all the way to the right?

My 62 389 Bonneville trashed a drivers side mount. One way of checking is to start the car with the hood open, foot on the brake, go to drive and apply gas putting stress on the mount. When mine went, you can see the engine start to lift up on the drivers side easily even sitting in the drivers seat.

Thats a good idea. I have the exhaust off the car right now so it will be pretty loud in the shop!

I'm sorry but the engine is currently out of my car and I can't check for you. I do remember that the steering arm and the oil definitely did not touch.

Is this the original engine? If not maybe wrong oil pan?

it is the original engine (389) and the oil pan looks the same as other pictures of 389's oil pans. So I am guessing it is correct.

Does anyone have a 1964 GP with a 389 that they could measure the steering arm to the oil pan? It would help lots so that I know if from factory it was close to hitting the pan(but not touching). It would just let me know if mine is only a little out of whack. Or a lot out of whack

my 1964 GP has the 8 lug wheels and i want to put torque thrust wheels on it. But the front wheels on a 1964 GP have the brake drum bolted onto the spindle where the hub would go. (some Grand prix's had regular 5 bolt wheels)
I am looking for 5 bolt hubs for my 1964 GP but I cant find any place that has them. some places have 5 bolt hubs for a 1964 GTO. Does anyone know if the 1964 GTO front hubs would work on a 1964 GP?

You're better off creating a new thread for each question you have. It's easier for people to respond and also for you and other members to look up in the future if needed.

You won't be able to use '64 GTO spindles on your '64 GP. The suspension and steering geometry are completely different between the cars, as well as different bolt patterns. Someone smarter than me can probably reply with additional info on how to make the conversion from 8 lug to standard brakes on the GP, but I recommend searching Ebay for used '64 Catalina/GP/Bonneville spindles. You can also try Pontiac parts yards like Pontiac Heaven in AZ or Frank's Pontiac in CA. They can probably remove a pair of spindles for you and ship them to you. I'm not aware of any companies which are reproducing the spindles for our large cars as new parts.

2nd to Frank's. I've delta with them many times, no disappointments yet. Are the spindles different between the 2 wheels or just the hubs? If the hubs, then follow this link ~3/4 of the way down to the drums and there are 3 sets hubs & drums ready to go, I'd go with the 3rd set, finned & cut only .038 & 040. FWIW.
