My high school 69 bird convertible. Was one hell of a fun car til I rolled it. Wouldn’t have had my RAIV car if it didn’t happen though.

I’ve had 21 69 Firebirds now.

Turbo69bird, that 69 convertible crash reminds me of mine with my 1st 66 GTO in April of 1970 I rolled over a hardpacked snowbank. You were super lucky. Mine was a hardtop, and also a total loss. I didn't hit the windshield but I picked glass out of my neck to several years.

It only took me 37 years to get another 66 GTO.

It had a 70 400 from a Grand Prix with a spun rod bearing in it. Also had a bad 3rd gear n the M21. But it was a great deal. I took the engine and transmission from. my GTO and was street racing in a week.

Those 15x4 cragars in the front are worth more than that today. What s in the back cheater slicks?

Yeah I walked away from that one. Got lucky.
Well technically I drove away but they came and found me lol

I was 17 and I think I was in shock. And it was AFTER they flipped it back on it’s wheels.

For a short while I used 15x4 Rockets on the front of the GTO. They had skinny 5.60 x15 tires on them, the same as used on the VW Beetle. Totally useless on wet pavement, they would barely hook on dry pavement for a left or right turn. I took them off after a couple weeks.

Mickey Thompson’s on the back Moroso drag lites up front. The slicks were mounted on Rocket wheels.

Turbo69bird, guess who ended up with the Trans Am...

I walked away from mine to. Only for an ambulance ride to get my face washed. The GTO was towed away, and later stripped of what I could sell off it. The rest went to the scrapyard.

I pulled a lot of parts off mine as well and built another . I’ll post pics of it here at some point .
I also found my RAIV because of it.

That’s an old friend of mine, John Valente of New Castle, Delaware. That was a stock four barrel car that ran 12.7s consistently and it was completely legal. It was call “The Blue Spectre.” The car looks black in the photo, but it was dark blue. He bought the car new and it was his daily driver for a couple years. He was a heck of a great driver and mechanic. After the GTO he built modified production cars and was very successful.
