pontiac 1963 fuel indicater
Hej all you pontiac experts
i have a pontiac catalina from 1963 i imported to Denmark 13 years ago. my problem is my fuel indicater always show full tank, i have replaced all partes in the fueltank, but still it shows full tank any tips ? is it my fuel indicater that needs to be replaces or somethig else Best regards From Denmark Robin |

63 still used a 30 ohm sending unit. If someone has replaced it with a modern 90 ohm unit, it will read full until you are almost empty. A full reading isanything over 30 ohms. Or your wiring is open to the fuel guage. If you have one of the 90 ohm sending units, add a 200 watt 45 ohm resistor across the sending unit line and chassis ground. It won't be perfect but the readings will be much closer to correct. Plus side is the closer to empty you are the more accurate it will be.

yes, I think that is a sign of the wire to the sending unit is not connected (open) somewhere between the gauge and thee sending unit. in the other hand if that wire I'd grounded somewhere between the gauge and tank it will always show E all the time. Check continuity at the tank and if there is no voltage there there is a problem with that wire somewhere between the gauge and tank. I runs under the sill plate and at some time the may have been damage. Check a wiring diagram and see what color that wire is to trace it back.
