I think this is the best approach. Although I think the original hood probably could be fixed by a skilled fabricator, if the reproduction hoods are high quality (which sounds as though they are), I'd just get a new hood and keep the original stowed away.

There ain’t enough skill...rosary beads, sandals.....or magic wand to fix that rust riddled support.

Perhaps, but having just seen my GTO go from being a rust bucket to completely solid, I've witnessed what's possible if one is determined (and skilled) enough. An experienced fabricator could cut out and replace all the affected areas shown above. It'll just cost a lot in labor.

If it was a high dollar exotic car with provenance, the original hood would 100% be fixed and reused. But as an A-body, it's just not worth the trouble if repops are available and good.
