A Red 1970 GTO 455 HO 4 speed. Car had a white vinyl top and a white interior. 12 bolt posi and M22 trans. All original, all numbers matching. No rust. Just faded paint. No dents, decent interior. A running, driving car. This was 1981, and a friend picked up the car for $175 because it didn't run. Fixed the burnt wire to the distributor, and drove it 35 miles home. We stripped it to use the engine, trans , and rear end in a '66 GTO that was being built. None of our "group" was into the '70's GTO's at the time. Found out later it was a really rare and valuable car.

Well groing up I had a few cars that I wish I had never got rid of or parted out. I had a 66 chevy chevelle which at the time I wasnt into cars and ended up selling the car for $2500 later on found out it was a number matching slant six 66. I also had a 1975 ford maverick grabber. I ended up trading the car for another car and I didnt know that the 302 motor that was in it was actually a boss 302 . Still kicking myself for that

68lemansman's post reminded me of the 67 Chevelle SS 396/375 hp car (blue, black vinyl top, black interior) that I sold for $175 in 1976. Engine was getting tired and drivers seatback was bent from doing so many holeshots. Thought I got a good price at the time.

Just parted out a 71 Lemans; no regrets there. Tropical Lime car, but otherwise mundane. Only needed the frame.

Also parted out a 69 Fairlane Cobra with a 428 CJ. Tree fell on it 25 years ago; one rear quarter was smushed, but car could have been fixed. However, these cars don't bring much $, even when restored, so no regrets yet. I may change my mind 10 years from now, of course.

Parting an interesting 72 Javelin AMX now. Just picked it up yesterday. Originally just a 304 2bbl car with a 3 speed manual. However, it does have a factory fiberglass cowl induction hood. Between that and the grille and AMX grille screen, I'll come close to recouping my investment of $1,300, and I will use some stuff on my 71 Javelin Trans Am racer clone project. Car could be saved, but the lower quarters are nonexistent - rust ate 'em away. Don't regret it yet, but the guys on the AMC forum would like to see it saved.

Okay we've discussed the ones we destroyed. How about the ones we saved from certain destruction? ...

thats funny.i bought a 67 ss396 350 hp 4 speed for about 350 in 1975.it's what i drove to high school my senior year.didn't know till after i sold it how rare it was with the factory tach over the left turn signal.bench seat had a few rips and there was rust only where the driverside exhaust was bent up shooting into the driver quarter.traded for a 69 ss nova 396 375 hp 4 speed.now that is one i wish i still had.sold it to buy my first trans am in 1977,bought a 1978 bandit new, took delievery oct 77.guy i sold the nova to,wrapped it around a tree when he lost control of all that power on a wet road.

Came across another 72 Javelin (AMX clone) "parts car". It's a real 20 footer - older paint, quarters full of bondo. Paid parts car $ for it and well worth it in what I could take off and sell. However, this one will be SAVED! Only a 304 2bbl auto car, but the 304 is fresh, I have a few spare 4bbl intakes and carbs, have a spare power disk setup to replace the manual drums, etc. Don't think I will keep it, but this will be an inexpensive driver for someone.

Default Am...

Right now I am parting out a 72 LeMans, GTO package (nose and fin) convertible. It is the first of 2 that my wife owns and was a "hurricane survivor" from Mississippi, meaning it is dying of saltwater rust from the inside out. I hate to do it, but the frame is rotted even and the only parts of this aren't rusting to death are the bondo, plastic, and glass parts....
Still a lot of good parts on it, but going to ship what I cant put in a card board box off with the fellow who just bought the engine and tranny.
I am just glad she was able to find one in restorable shape, she really loves that car.

Check out my OHC-6 resto job at:

a regret i have only due to me not researching the car properly (grrr) was about 5 years ago i bought 3 trans am's off this guy. 1 was a 76 T/A which i finished and sold on. the 2nd was a 77 T/A which i also finished and sold on..the 3rd was a 76 shell. had it stored for a while and then my mate wanted a shell to make a 77/78 bandit replica. sold him the shell and he did what he set out to do. he later sold it and someone recognised the reg, only turned out to be a 76 T/A 50th anv 455ho with manual box and it was t-tops....what can you do..

In 1978, we helped the auto shop teacher part out a 65 GTO Convertable. Dark green, white top and interior. He had the 389/4 speed sold to a friend of his. I bought the AM/FM for $10.00, had it underdash of my 66 Mustang! The rest went to the boneyard.

My second car, a solid '70 Plymouth Roadrunner, Lemon Twist with green bench seat interior, pistol-grip 4-speed, Air-Grabber 383, 3.55 posi. Let a drunk friend go get beer with it in the midst of a house party back in '79, he drove it into a ditch at about 60. Took off the passenger fender, destroyed the passenger door, creased the passenger quarter. I didn't part it though... I did worse: sold it to a local psychopath who liked to do power stands and reverse curls until the tranny, motor or both exploded for $300. Ad that's exactly what he did. I'd get a grand for the hood today!

My 67 Grand Prix my Dad gave me when I was 15. Mint green with a white convertible top and white interior. Had 67.K orig. miles. My first Pontiac. Someone needed the 400 and I pulled it and sold it! Didn't realize that was the ONLY year G.P, convertible. Young and stupid!

I parted 2 71 455HO GTO's back in 1996, one a 4spd, one auto. Both were pretty well loaded, but the Auto car had practically everything on the order list and was a zone car too!

A 1970 Trans Am M21 3:73 car (rusty), a one owner rust free 1965 4 door Parisienne with matching 421 auto a/c and loads of power options (thought it was just a big boat and wanted the engine for my GTO), an original 1981 Turbo Formula (knew they were hard to find but got more for the parts than what I paid for the car). I don't regret parting any Chevys or Fords.

In about 77 or 78 bought a 70 Olds W30 442 back in NE Maine. It was full of bondo, the frame was cracked and welded 3 times , from wheel stands. Had a bad rod knock after 2 months of fun. When I moved to Va. to go to college, left it in Me., some jerk, broke all the glass. Mom got tried of looking at it, had it hauled off to the junk yard for 75.00.

In the mid 70's, I bought a rust free 69 Mach 1, red on red, 351 4bbl, automatic. Hit in the left rear when parked. I just wanted the engine, trans, and posi for a 54 F100. Sold the fenders for $10.00 a piece. Think I got $20.00 for each door. Paid $250.00 for the car.

In 1980, I bought a 70 RA3 GTO, automatic, factory wing car, excellent sandlewood interior, numbers matching everything, complete with all RA pieces for $800.00. Car was rusty, hit in the rear, roof was crushed some from a tree falling on it when the car was in the garage. Bought this one to fix a 1970 Judge that was rust free, but needed every thing besides body parts. Paid $500.00 for that one, and I had to think about it a few days.

In 1985, I parted a 1970 Lemans Sport, factory bucket seat, 4 speed car.

Also, a 68 or 69 Lemans OHC 6 for a friend, and another 69 Mach 1 for the F100.

All repairable today, except for the last two.
