If anyone could find old Vern, it would be Stuart. He's very good with finding things on the net.

Nice story

You all have some great stories. I purchased the car this past February. I bought it from a couple in Key Largo Florida. The reciepts in th car show it was owned previously by at least 2 owners in the Miami area. I did a florida registration search and I can trace it back to 1998 to a couple in Clearwater Florida. But what I discovered is that I am the 5th owner in 10 years. Seems like the car was past around due to folks not wanting to put any "love" into it. My PHS documents show the car was sent to McAndrew Pontiac in Manchester MA in june of 70. It was not ordered by anyone, It showed it was purchased by General Motors Acceptance Corp. So I fugure it was sent as "lot filler" or a lease. I guess I need to send the Clearwater people a letter and see if they can shed some light on the car. I would love to know its history.

Mike,
Sounds like it became a snowbird car.

Does the body tell you how much time it probably spent up north before ending up in Florida (mass = lower rust, FLa = upper rust)

John,
According to my body guy the rear quarters were replaced. Probably about the same time the interior was replaced. It had PUI door panels that were pretty worn and faded. My body guy had to replace / fix metal in the rockers towards the rear and some door metal in the lower front doors. The front fenders seem original. There was really no upper rust except under the trunk moulding bedind the rear bumper. The top had been replaced from black to white. So my guess is it spent at least the first 10 years in Mass.
Mike

McAndrew Pontiac does not seem to exist anymore... So no chance of history there

Sounds like it might have gone to florida in the 90`s as a restored collector car rather than earlier as a `regular`car

I would say more of a kinda-restored driver. At least the previous owners have kept it alive.

Default 68 bought with my house

Story starts, Looking to buy new house here in NH. Looked at this house a couple of times and saw a car sitting in garage half torn down, but never payed much attention to it.

Well then we stated going back and forth with offers. After a couple of offers being denied, and finding out the hubby had all ready moved out in a condo (divorce). I made one more offer and stated car stays put with all parts or I am moving on to next house.

They took it. We moved in, got settled in and a year later (2005)I started the resto, and now its done this was the first summer I drove the car. It is a 68 GTO clone (cloning was already started when I took owner ship) Love the car and would take a lot to get rid of it, as I did all the work, except paint. Would like to fine the other owners to get pics of it as a Lemans.

Nothin to interesting with mine. Was imported into Canada in the late 70's ( from Seattle area), already had a transplant at that time, was supposed to be a 400, my brother had purchased it from the importer in the early 80's and drove the crap out of it. Killing the 400, wouldn't stand up to 300*f. He decided to store it away in about 85, so we trailered it from one spot to another then finally to my place in 91. He never did anything with it so I bought it in 95 and put it inside. started working on it in 2004, made it driveable in 2007. One day it will get a new shiney coat, if I quit spending the money on other car parts, LOL. I love to drive it and it makes my daughters smile when they ride in it.

Here's a recent photo of the car taken a few years back. If this works, I'll post a few more pics.

With my mom's '64 Catalina. Pictures taken around '75-'76. With Don Gay's car. You can see the left quarter of my dad's GTO in the photo. This photo is from about '67. Same pose as first pic but taken around '71-'72.

This is the way the car looks today. Everything is original unrestored. The B&W photo is the earliest known photo of the car taken in June '67. That's my late uncle Buzz standing next to it. Notice the hubcaps and whitewall tires.

Hunting trip in northern Pa. winter '68. My late uncle Buff is on the left and my uncle Francie on the right pointing to their 2 deer on the trunklid. The second picture is my sister on the left, my brother in the center, and me on the right around '77-'78. The last one is me and my sister. Notice the 'Baby Moon' hubcaps the car was wearing around '74.

First picture is from May '62 of me in my first Pontiac. The second is of me standing in front of the '65 Le Mans that was traded in on the '66 GTO. The third photo of me was taken in Dec. of 2007. This car is my '65 GTO that I have had for 25 years. The last photo is of me taken in '85 with the same GTO. Just thought I'd throw these ones in.

I'll try to dig up some pics in the future.

My car; a '78 W72 T/A, Was orderd new from Cochan Pontiac in Monroville PA. The car took for ever to arrive, and when he did get it, it had an outta state title. I don't why that happend nor where it was, but it took nearly nine months to arrive from the factory.

Later years car was then giving to his son, my cousin. The motor broke, they fixed it. He got a speeding ticket for 100+mph and my uncle kicked him off his insurance and made him move in with his mother. It was drivin' alittle.

Then I got it when I was 16~18. I had the car at 16 but couldn't drive it, and didn't get the title till I was 18. I Blew it up when I was about 20. I didn't have the funds to fix it then so it just sat. It has 48K on it and I'm finally fixing it now.

New information on mine. I discovered that JJBest held a loan on it. That was when the Clearwater folks had it. I see they do finacing with Ebay Car Dealers. So would agree it probably was restored up north then put on Ebay or some other internet seller. Purchased, financed and sent to FL. Do you think Best would give me the information on who the dealer or owner was?

It isn't Blue by any chance?

I used to live near Cochran Pontiac & there was a Martinique Blue '78 4spd car I tried to buy when I was 17. My dad had a fit that I wanted a 4spd T/A with a blown motor for my first car. He refused to let me buy it.

I loved that car.
