30 years ago I learned that the closest match in a spray can was made by Ford. It has the correct 'greenish' tint of silver to it. I've still got a can left in my shop. I doubt you can still get it over the counter at the Ford dealership's parts department, but I'll try to remember to get the # off the can and post it tomorrow.

I'm sorry for taking so long to reply to my post, I really had forgotten until I noticed the can in my shop today. It is a Ford labeled can titled 'Argent Spray Paint'. The part # on the can is D7AZ-19000-A. I purchased it at the parts counter at my local Ford Dealership about 30 years ago. I doubt the part # is still good, but you might get lucky. If not, you might try one of the Mustang boards and they might have a cross reference for this paint.

We've always used Ford argent silver. At least Ford is good for something.

Chevy argent is too gray. Original Rally I paint was much more of a pewter color.

I agree with SR-71.

The factory color on the 65-68 Rally I wheels had a “pewter” tint.

Below is an unrestored set that are OEM paint.

Default FWIW...

I have been very pleased with this DP Hi-Pro wheel coat.
Been on for several years now and holding up amazingly well.
Color is outstanding and has never been nitpicked at a points event.

Default Rally 1 wheels

Would the original sheen for Rally 1 wheels be flat, semi gloss or gloss? Was the paint baked on at the factory just like the car body?

I would say yes.
Like any of the rims being supplied, they arrived with a basic minimal black spray/coat.
I know if you order color-coordinated rims they where face/front sprayed in house and baked so I can't imagine Rallye rims would be any different.

Basically less likely to suffer damage when shipped from supplier to the factory,
but more likely a way for the bean counters to save a few pennies.
