I wonder if that was the give-away 1968 GTO with RA II that was promoted in the car magazine ads.

The GTO was given by George to the Hurst Armed Forces Club member who won the drawing. The winner was flown from his station to enjoy free attendance at the Nationals, plus the GTO. I enjoyed free membership in the club for all of my 39 months in Germany, and had my fingers crossed for the GTO!

Cool story. I wondered for a little bit if that was my car but it isnt. The giveaway car was an auto trans with hideaways where my car is manual with fixed headlights. Otherwise pretty similar from what I can see in the illustration. I dont know much about the early history of my car. PHS says it was sold in Culver City CA (LA area). Then it made it's way to Arizona around 1976 where it had remained since.

I would have to find my notes, and I'm afraid it's in an effed-up external hard drive.

Going from memory, he wasn't sure what engine it had or if it even was a Ram Air car....but my memory's been wrong before, of course.

Here's the sidebar from the book.

Are we seeing 2 different cars, one with hide-away headlights and one without. Assume the one without is the actual winner's car?

There’s only one giveaway car and it had exposed headlights.
