ride height
My 65 GTO no a/c seems to me to be sitting a little high in the from and rear. What should the height be at the center of the fender opening and the center of the quarter panel opening or is there other dimension that I could go by?

How long ago did you replace springs? They take a while to settle.

What size tires are you running? I'm thinking that your question is based on the amount of room between the top of the tire and the fender opening.
The height, if the springs were 100% correct, will vary by the diameter of the tires used. Unless you are running a stock diameter tire (27.02" per diameter of reproduction 7.75x14 Coker tires), set at factory air pressure settings, your measurements wouldn't match any factory specs. Just taking some typical tires used on '65 GTO's - if you're running 14's - a 215/70/14 tire is only 25.85" tall. That would make the gap .575" larger than stock (27.02 - 25.85 = 1.17 / 2 = .575 or half the difference in the diameter). Very few people are currently running 27" diameter tires on all 4 corners of their cars today. |

If you get your inspectors guide out . On page eight is a guide to factory ride height.
I never understood the thought of drive it awhile it will settle. when the factory had a spec. for vehicle height. |

Modern radial tires with a 75, 70 or 60 series profile and a typical 35 PSI pressure doesn't translate well to a bias ply 7.75x14 tire. |

I don't have an inspectors guide, where can I get one? Is the rocker measurement from the pinch weld or from the flat underside part of the rocker?

Yea I had problem with math also .
There is a diagram in pic of page in book that shows where inspector would check . Before it starts .NO they did not check every car . Ames sells booklet I was a GTOAA and got points off for car to low . |

The diagram shows the area but does not show if it is the pinch weld on the rocker or the rocker panel. The picture is not 3 dimensional. The pinch weld is lower than the rocker panel by probably 1 inch so it would make a difference.

This is hearsay, of course, but I think GTOAA has been schooled to slide their judging clipboards sideways under the car frame. Was your 65 lower than that, Don??

I really didn't see the method they used but showed up on score sheet. It was my first time out . GTOAA in Monrowville PA. I was a little overwhelmed buy events being a newbee . Since then I have learned a little more about the process. As i'm sure you have also. |

Had to re-read your post Bill.... To answer your question . Yes it was to low in the front. As usual, I came home and did some digging to find the answer to what is correct height.
This was my first meeting with Mr. Tiemann . funny side story . He came out the night before the judging day and was looking the cars over. He walked around my car looking it over. I not knowing him got a felling he was Scott. He made a couple comments on a few things wrong. So I'm all anxious and asked. What else he saw. His response was I don't want to keep you from sleeping . I though that was witty as hell. funny! |

Going by the inspectors guide with the a full tank of gas it states the rocker height in the rear is 9". My car with an empty tank is 10 3/4" and that looks low to me. I had my buddy's push down on the trunk till the rocker was at 9" and it look like a low rider. The front is the same concern with the measurement they say is factory. Does anyone have their car set at this oem height? If so can we see some pics and do you like it. I'm afraid to fill the tank with gas. I just installed new springs front and rear because the car was to high. I believe the previous owner has convertible springs in the rear and a/c springs in the front.

Too low, did? Your car looks "spot on" in ride height. (And amazingly sharp!)
