Here's a pic of the back end of the Catalina with the tailpipe tips just visible below the valance...otherwise, still waiting for the interior and front end paint.

Same view of some 69's, convertible is a 428-390 (2.25") and the other is a 428-360 horse with 2". The third is an Executive with 2.25" single exhaust (400-290). Interestingly the tailpipe and resonator on the single exhaust is the same part number as the right side on the HO.

I was never crazy about the look of the relatively inboard position of exhaust on the big cars (unlike A and G bodies the exhaust on B bodies runs inboard of the frame rails) and that's probably why Pontiac always had the fullsized exhaust tips discreetly tucked away.

North - Are your exhaust systems on the '69's from Waldron? They look very factory where the tips exit.

Yup, I use Gardiner when I can (GTO, Firebird etc) and Waldron for any car that Gardiner doesn’t do like those full-size.

I follow the shop manual to install the exhaust in terms of clearances and tail pipe position.

This is my favorite thread on the board. Amazing work and can't wait to see it in person. So. . . Ummm. . . When can I bring my Catalina to be done like this?

Thanks Tim! We are hoping it gets done this year now. We need to kick some butts to get some action so Dan can finish her up.

We wish, but have to wait for the front end to get painted and the seats to be reupholstered, so it's not going to get finished this year unfortunately.

Well...That is no fun at all. I suppose patience is a virtue - but I've never had much of it myself (patience or virtue).

It sure is a beautiful and unique ride - and judging by the work you've done so far it will be worth the wait. Thanks for keeping up updated...

That's a bummer. I was hoping to see it at the PSMCDR in September as this will be my first year attending. That is as long as it doesn't get cancelled too.

70staged1 - We were hoping for that too, but next year for sure. The PSMCDR is officially happening and introduce yourself to me, Dan & Lyndon when you get there.

Default Minor Update

I had a bunch of NOS B-body Delco spiral shocks (fronts & rears) that I forgot I had and gave a set to Dan to install on the Catalina. He restored them and fogged in the black paint to match the rear ends. He also bought a set of repop G70-15 WW Goodyear Polyglas's and mounted them on the 15" steel rims.

The upholstery shop is finally working on the seats and should have them done in a few weeks...yeah!

Getting closer...

I see the frame for another big Pontiac sitting on the hoist in the background, what is that one?

Good eyes misterp266! I wish there was an update to report but Dan is patiently waiting on the upholsterer. Painting the front end pieces is to happen pretty soon. Dan also has a line on a correct Hurst shifter handle and linkages, so hopefully that comes through.
