Thanks Scott. I need just the ball joints at this time. Yes, I believe there were 3 different styles. The 1967 A bodies used the short dome style (9775810).

Still in the market for NOS upper ball joints (9775810). Will pay up to $200/pair for excellent condition (ie. no rust pits or rust stains). Thanks.

P.S. Also need great condition original upper shafts. The kind with large fine thread lock nuts on the ends, not the ones with the small bolts that hold the bushings tight.

Ball joints always confused me.
NOS over the counter, would they be a bolt in piece or did the service department need to rivet them in. In an LS6 thread someone posted up images of 2 NOS ball joints (3848048 grp 6.164)one had smaller holes sized for rivets the other for bolts.

Are the part numbers the same for the other A-bodies?

In my notes I copied and pasted (not sure if correct, or just service part number)
Upper Ball Joint #3963842 was ORIGINALLY used on: (these have the rivet size holes I think)
1964-72 Chevelle
1967-69 Camaro
1968-72 Nova
Also used on A-F-X bodies for B-O-P too.

So are the flatter ones for 70-72? and the tall for 64-69?

According to my book: 64-68 A bodies used 9775810 (low round dome with 1/4" rivet holes). I've seen a ton of these on used originals so I know these are correct for my application. They sell after market GM restoration look alikes which are almost exactly like originals except they have 5/16" mounting holes and minor other insignificant differences. I'll take pictures of both then post if I can figure out how to upload the photos.

Not sure about the other numbers you quoted.

Replacement OEM were bolted in but can be riveted for that factory look.

9775810's are slightly domed on the top. the later 546174 style are the tall protrusion style.

In earlier post, I mistakenly referred to the year range of the early style upper ball joints, in my March of '72 Master Parts books:

9775810....... 64-68 T/6-T/8
546174..........69-72 A,G

By the 1/73 Master Parts books, the 546174 became the superseded upper ball joint for '64-68 model A body's.

6d7gto,
If you can come up with a pair of similar condition (very nice) NOS 546174 upper ball joints, I'll let go of a pair of same condition NOS 9775810 upper ball joints.

Only one point of printed reference I have with that # is a 11-1-69 dated Pontiac Master Parts book.

Grp 6.178. #9796840

67-68 F /6-F/8
69......F/6-F/8-T/6-T/8 -GP/8

The above applications noted, my bet is that particular tall protrusion ballpoint is a service replacement for most of the applications listed in the above master parts book listing.

To make things more confusing as far as the complete original usage of the tall protrusion style ball joints... Two years ago, I examined quite a few '70-72 GrandPrixs with original riveted ball joints. Noticed both tall protrusion & a lesser protruding style. Will be checking two longtime original front suspension '69 GrandPrixs in the next few weeks.
