I ordered a new bezel, as the old one was beat up from people using pliers to remove/install it. I then installed the old bezel, but backwards. I adjusted it until it located the switch at the depth I wanted (and added some Loc-tite).

I then drilled a hole where the locating tab SHOULD be. A roll pin was then pressed into the hole. Installed, and it no longer freely rotates!

Note in the 3rd picture, the rollpin location lines up with the incorrect-depth locating tab on the switch.

The new ignition I ordered a few days ago arrived today. None of my 3 existing chrome bezel nuts will fit onto this new ignition switch. In the pic, I placed a nut next to this new ignition. This nut screws onto the new ignition and onto my existing ignition; therefore, a likely assumption would be that all 3 chrome bezels have damaged threads. However; when I look at the threads on the bezels, I don't see any obvious damage. So, I need a new chrome bezel, but possibly, this may only be sold in a set with other dash bezels (I don't know yet).

The new ignition is $99.00, I don't really need it and I don't think an electrical part is returnable, so I have a spare switch. The Ames switch has 6 terminals and the American Autowire switch has 5 terminals. The difference is that the Ames switch has an IGN1 and IGN2. What could I do with an IGN2?

IGN-1 is run, that's power through the resistance wire going to the coil.

IGN-2 is crank, that's battery volts to the coil when starters engaged.

Early F-body cars and cars that came with straight 6 cyl got IGN-2/crank from starter solenoid "R" terminal.

It's a Pontiac Thang
Clay

Okay, the new chrome bezel I ordered from Ames arrived today and it fits on to the American Autowire ignition switch. perfectly; I didn't even have to remove the tumbler. Why my other 3 bezels did not work I don't know. Problem solved!!!
