I thought I would check in and see the old thread. The time has come for some reorganization. I am discontinuing Citation Industries and simplifying my life a little. I still have the welting and the trim rings. For the future, please contact me at this email account: jandrews3@sbcglobal.net. I will be able to help you there with both products.

Thank you to everyone that has purchased from me in the past, and I will still be around, probably more so than before.

Regards,

James Andrews

Yes I will also put anyone in need of wheel flare welting your way
The previous owner of my car put black rubber strips on for welting.
I then see this topic
I bought some from you for my car a few months back
Quality is first class
Thank you
Mick

I'm back with another update on endurance testing painted welting. After I put the samples through the freezing tests I put the sample board up on a flat roof above my rear lanai. They got full sun and weather every day unless there was a hurricane possibility. It's been almost 3 years since I painted the samples and I'm really, really, impressed with the welting.

Results

No discernible fading, yellowing, or stiffening of unpainted samples.

No discernible fading, yellowing, or peeling of clear coated stock colored pieces whether adhesion promoter was used or not.

No discernible fading or peeling of BC/CC pieces whether adhesion promoter was used or not.

No discernible fading or peeling of single stage urethane whether adhesion promoter was used or not.

The single stage acrylic enamel with flex agent but without adhesion promoter has finally started peeling, it took much longer than I expected.

The single stage acrylic enamel with flax agent and adhesion promoter is still holding! Surprising!

In the pics below the long piece of each color is the "control group" pieces that were stored in the house. The middle piece is stock color with no clear, and the top piece is stock color with clear coat. The bottom pic is the now failing single stage acrylic enamel with flex agent but without the use of adhesion promoter. I expect even the ones with the adhesion promoter will fail soon, but who knows? I didn't think any of the single stage acrylic enamel would survive the torture this long! I really bend and twist all the samples a lot, far more than anyone would installing the welting on flares.

Hi James. What colors do you have left? Will you be making any more? I see black and blue on eBay, but I can't tell what else, if any, you have available. There are some people asking, but I don't know what to tell them. Thanks!

Hello Steve,

Lucerne Blue, Starlight Black and Cameo White. I ran out of Buccaneer Red. Unfortunately, those are all that will be made. It has become economically unfeasible to produce any more. The minimum purchase amount of material is so high, that you have to make too large an investment.

It was fun while it lasted. Anyway I have plenty of those colors left for the future. fortunately, I think john's research on painting has shown the way to handle other colors.

Regards,

James

Thanks James. I can understand that. I appreciate your efforts, and am happy with the welting I bought before. I'll let people know what you have. Should I give them this email address, jandrews3@sbcglobal.net ?

And I need double a regular (real) TA for my own car because I have a set of foilers as well as regular flares in front of the wheels. Better order it! I'll send ya a PM James.

Wow, Time Flies!!!! My last update was in 2020, Much has happened since then. Covid caused some disruption in what I was hoping to do with the manufacturing of the welting. The supply chain and cost inflation had made it difficult to justify making any additional colors. Recently I retired, so I decided to look into the project again. Unfortunately, the company that color matched and extruded the product for me went out of business and took my tooling with them. I started searching for an alternative source. I found a company and went through the process of re-making the tooling. That has now been completed and the first run of new welting has been delivered. The first run was Buccaneer Red and it is up on Ebay #165690957795 for those who have been asking about when I would have it available again. Also, I have sent the color plates to match for the color Platinum for the 10th anniversary editions. Please stay tuned, as I will provide more updates along the way.

Thanks,
James

This is great news. Thank you for your perseverance with this tough but needed project. Do you plan on Polar white and Cameo Ivory?

James,

I know it’s a long shot and would be low demand, but any chance of Brewster in the future?

Thanks
Stan

Hello Stan,

The new Supplier has agreed to a smaller minimum order quantity, but at a higher per unit cost. This is similar to what I did with Lucerne Blue, but in that case because of the minimum order quantity, I had to charge $150 for a set. Now it looks like I could probably do it for about $125 a set. Would it be worth that amount? Tell me what you think. Bottom line is the low production colors like Brewster Green and Admiralty Blue, etc., are closer to reality.

I would definitely pay that for Brewster.

I was in on the original first buys. Bought 2 Lucerne sets. Later I bought a Cameo white set just in case. Lol.

The Lucerne matched my car perfectly and am still extremely happy with it.

Kenny,

The feedback I get is that the thing to use is high strength weatherstrip adhesive.
