NOS A Body Motor Mounts
Been on the hunt for NOS A Body motor mounts.
I got lucky and found a left side (9784961)for $39. The right (9784960) has been harder to find but I have located two. Unfortunately the owners want $100 and $175 for them. I am aware of the superseded part numbers and they have been part of my search. Poly/Solid mounts are not an option. I know the left side is the one that breaks so I'm pretty happy I have a factory mount there and could probably get by with a Korean mount on the right side. So the question is: What would you pay for NOS A Body mounts?

I would pay the $100 and be done with it. Average the two together and it's only $70 a side

Not necessarily, depends on how the motor mounts were stored over the years,. Have sold & used several pair out of over 3 dozen NORS late 60's -early '70's domestic application motor mount pairs from a mid 70's parts stock that I came across 30 years ago. Have yet to have a complaint on any of those mounts failing.

I'd rather take a chance on 50 year old GM mounts versus the new Indian or Chinese garbage on the market

I wish I had saved my original mounts ... even the metal is about 25% thicker.
If I had a way to bond the rubber I'd bend/weld up my own. |

I've seen Korean mounts that were only half the thickness.

You'd think someone would start making a quality stock type mount again ... obviously enough are being sold to make it worth it to the Koreans to make them for about $7 each .... I'd pay $30 each for proper quality OEM type mounts.

Just spent a while reading this.
https://www.hemmings.com/blog/2012/1...ow-automotive/ As long as there are still replacements available, he won't do them. |

So I assume that means as long as there are ANY replacements of any kind available. China will make these things for the next 100 years if there is any demand

With a little ingenuity, I sure someone could come up with an alternative mount that will be just as effective as the originals, but more durable than what is currently offered. And, yes, I agree that the fifty year old rubber is still better than the one month old rubber.

I've heard good and bad about the MityMounts ... they better work for the price

Plenty of members on this board have broken the $85 dollar allen bolts added to the $15 dollar offshore mounts.

My engine test stand has the uprights for the engine mounts spread apart just a little. Never a problem with old crusty original mounts, but the times where we installed a new replacement motor mount, the rubber pealed right off the engine side of the mount. At first we thought the failure was a one-off event, but after the second one we learned to not use any new mounts on the test stand. I can see why so many people have had failures using these mounts since the rubber doesn't really bond to the metal.

Could always adapt clam shell types, that solves it. You could wrap the sleeve with a bicycle inner tube and it would work on a clam shell.
I'm just not having the problems some say they have, the problems I've had in the past is where they don't sit right, one side higher than the other, stuff like that, but no tear-away complete failure things, and I beat my stuff. There are other factors that contribute to engine mount failure, like sloppy body bushings, sloppy suspension bushings, drivetrain misalignment, bad trans mount, things like that. If you have a 4000 stall and slicks/stickies, and are constantly launching it, that too I'm sure will shorten the mounts' life. .
