1968 Glovebox Emblem installation
I purchased an firebird emblem for my glove box. How do you intall it when the inside of the glovebox is raised to put your coffee cup? The firebird emblem has a prong which needs to go through the front of the glovebox and secured on the back of the glovebox which is raised and closed off. I could grind the prong off the emblem and glue it but there must be a better way.

theres a very small ferrule that it is pushed into.
You could glue it but I would use some 3M molding tape if you cant find the nut

Thanks for the response. I have the ferrule. Problem is I'm going to have to drill the front of the glove box first. Once I push the point of the emblem through I can't see of grab it on the other side because the inside of the glovebox isn't flat, its raised for coffee cups to sit on. I'd also have to drill into this whichis about 2 inches from the front of the console. Not sure if I can explain in an e-mail The glove compartment is from the side looks more like this < (envision the bottom of the V being the front of the glove box and the top of the V is where you would put your coffee. There is a gap.

Sorry I did say console but I meant glovebox. The inside of the glove box has two walls so the the emblem prong doesn't stick out to put the ferrule on. You can't see it.

There are 2 holes
one for the pin that holds it and the other keeps it aligned. Use a real short drill bit or make a stop to keep it from going thru.

Glove Compartment

Thanks for being patient with me. Maybe this picture will help. See the link above. I found this picture on the web. See the thickness of the glove compartment. If I drill the holes in the front of the console it will not go through the second part that you put your coffee on. I'll have to drill a larger hole on the inside so you can get access to the emblem prong to fasten it and then fill the inside hole with a plug. I'm sure there is an easier way. Do I need a different glove compartment?

From your last comment maybe you mean if the drill holes are small enough from the front the emblem pins will hold on there own and I don't have to secure from the inside of the glove compartment.

the barrel nut is pushed into the hole and holds the emblem
no access to back is needed check with local body shop supply and they should have some for emblems if not drill holes and use the 3M tape

This will work perfectly. I'll pick this up and it will definately work. Where are you located? I'm thinking of repainting the dash. I see yours is black as well. What type of black paint should I use? Semi-gloss?

paint formula will need to be done by mixer as they add flatner
to vary the gloss with the base they use. If you can still get lacquer thats what the factory used Ditzler # 9266 SG , DuPont 88L or equivalent of either

In the end I found that my glove box was not the type that originally had an emblem on it. There was no access to the back to install the ferrule. I ended up drilling two holes and gluing it in place. Thanks for the advice.

again there is NO access from the back
the ferrule simply pushs on from the front as does the emblem they call this a blind hole

I just noticed your earlier response. I couldn't picutre what you were saying. I now see the part you were talking about. I get it. I must have skipped over your earlier response. I never saw the diagram. Sorry in advance. I appreciate you taking time to respond. I use to rely on my brains as I'm not good looking. Looks like I'm zero for two now.

Missing your response and receiving a bolt like this with the emblem from Firebird Central made me wonder how I was suppose to connect through the hole. Too funny.
