Default Assembly plant question

My gto was sold new at Lou meliska pontiac in Parma Ohio but was assembled in Canada. Did all gto's sold in Ohio get built in Canada?

No.
The Pontiac distributed orders to differing plants to keep the load balance equal. (so one plant wouldn't get overloaded with work)

Would be nice if that Canada specific door label was reproduced. Thanks for sharing!

Boardog do you also have the Canada report for your car? (like PHS but sometimes has more data)

My Chevelle was built in Oshawa for US consumption (point of sale = Flint, Michigan).

Dad ordered the car for my mom to drive.

This is correct.

Final assembly location was allocated roughly by geometry, but then tempered based on work load balance - or - if you had some unique option content that only one of the plants was building.

For example, if you ordered dual rear wheels then your order would have to be deflected to Janesville.

Pontiac Michigan is closer to Ohio than Canada is (and a higher volume producer, too).

I bet most of the GTOs in Ohio came from the home plant.

Really cool car you have in TripleBlack.

Not implying that those had anything to do with the Canada build.

The Oshawa cars have unique cowl tags and coding too.
Your cowl tag should show codes D55 for console bracket , M21 for trans hole in floor , and likely a code for the vinyl top trim , and possibly another code for the dome/reading light bracket.
Anything that required a modification to a general basic body shell got coded.

Can you post a picture of your cowl tag ?
If its not too much trouble

I did get a reproduction door tag from a member here,,,don't know if he's around anymore. I did some research about Canada cars built for the US and was told those particular cars did say made in Canada like the OP door pic. He did offer a Canada version so that's the one I chose.

Thanks boardog .
C08 is for the provisions of the vinyl top moldings.

Been a while since I have taken out one of those reading dome lamps from a car.
Sort of thinking now they had an adapter plate that screwed into the normal mount of a regular dome light.
My 70 GTO 455 RA has that option.
Used to find them in later 70's TA's mostly.

My 71 T-37 was built in Fremont. Ordered through a dealer in Kodiak, AK, sent to Portland, OR then shipped to Renton, WA and delivered to a parking lot at tha Sea-Tac airport where I picked it up, put the plates on it and drove it about 100 miles to my parents house.

Reading lamp equipped dome light became a Pontiac option for the 70 model year but had surfaced earlier on other divisions. No need for an adaptor plate, the two screws that hold it to the roof have identical locations.

Btw, 70 and 73 were the only years that had Canadian production of the GTO and it was only for two door hardtops (not convertibles) and if I'm not mistaken no RA IV's. I've noticed a few distinctive things on Oshawa built GTO's like the lack of sealer on the lower door seams and a red goop used to hold the trunk mat.
