petesake,
Back on the road this summer? Wow, I wish I could do all that to my '65 Malibu convertible. I'm on the Island too. The weather has stopped me from doing any work in my one-car, unheated garage.
Keep up the good work.

im doing a 65 convertable also, do you have the door braces to keep the boty from twisting or warping the lsoor pans. for a ht, the roof keeps things rigid, but for a rag top, ive heard you should use the door braces to keep the body rigid

It is going to be a nice weekend. Fortunately I just finished my garage and have a place to work. Just stick with it. Where are you on the Island? I had a 65 malibu way back.

I just made up some 2X4 bracing and put it on the inside. I jacked everyting from the center of the car to keep it straight. How far along are you with your project?

petesake,
I'm in Westbury.
I realy need to expand my garage. I really want to tear into my Malibu but the one car garage just aint gonna cut it. I can't wait until spring. Then I'll be on the lookout for a '65 or '67 GTO.

Wife walked out to the garage, noticed the SawZall in my hand and ran inside. I had to drink 3 beers to get the nerve up to cut the qtr panel off, I left myself plenty to work with.

Those pics look soo eerily familiar.. We are in the very same spot of overhaul.

What method did you use on your frame? I'm just curious to see how others are doing it.

I wire wheeled my whole frame down removing all the scale.. then gave it a hefty coat of Eastwood Rust Stabilizer, then used filler primer and satin black paint to seal it up. and for a final Im using 3M Rubberizer. evened everything out and should protect it really well from rocks etc.

Obviously there are several of us restoring 65's at the moment because we are all fighting for the same parts on ebay all the time! hehe.

I'll post some of my pics this weekend for ya pete. looks like we started at the same time.. and both have the same amount of work, goal and timeframe in mind. keep me posted on your progress, maybe it will give me a little more initiative to keep it going.

Tronix:

Glad to hear we are in this together. I actually had a head start on the frame. When I bought the car it came epoxy coated. All I had to do was apply the top coat. Weather here has slowed me down a bit. Front suspension and brakes are complete. I will be putting the rear swaybar on this weekend. about 1/2 of the new brakelines are in (I did not win the ebay ad and had to wait for brackets LOL. Starting to clean and paint the motor. Hopefully I will have it in the frame in the next few weeks. Post some pictures of your car for us.

Bob:
The fuel and brake lines are held on the side of the frame rails with clips. The crossmember goes underneath the lines. Do you have a copy of the Restoration Guide? It is a great tool with great pictures. Any questions you have be sure to ask here. Everyone is very helpful and there is no such thing as a stupid question. I can't wait to see your pictures. Hopefully, I will get some more posted this weekend myself.
