Are you sure it was the GTOAA and not POCI? I have never seen the GTOAA ask an owner for the removal of a wheel cover. Either way, looks like you got one tough judge. Something you said?! |

Getting about ready to load for the trip. Been rubbing so long, my finger prints are about gone.
Couple more pics. Found Dill valve stems and caps on Ebay, lug nuts too. If you are showing, don't forget the rear frame drains, one on each side. GTOAA feels for them like they do the door drains. Very easy to overlook. Hope to see and meet a lot of people from the forum. PLEASE stop by and say HI!!!!! See you in Dayton. TIC TOC TIC TOC!! "Bill"! |

Looks super bill. Is that red tape or red paint on your throttle cable? I'm so intimate with mine now I may decorate it. See you next week!

Hi Ron, Yes Right behind the end of your rocker molding. Should have a rubber rectangular cap (dust cover) over it, about 1X2". One on each side. See you soon.. "Bill"!

Sorry for the delay, the same camera operator issues. I just hope one of the pictures of the clips comes out. As I stated, I doubt anyone will take note.
The yellow at the clip and below the fender in the second picture is the yellow stripe found on the hose. Fortunately for me, the factory worker positioned the hose in just such a way that the judges can see it. The third picture is the second clip just behind the hinge and ahead of the fire wall. |

9776826 But I am not real sure that is the 3 fold bellows. My May KC has the 3 folds but another original built fremont 4D is a very original 2 fold.

Pretty certain 9776826 was the "2nd design" boot.
There were 2 threads on this topic in 2009. Here's one of them, Prairierust posted good p/n info. http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=616862 I found a guy who would try to repro the 1st design boot but I was never able to obtain a good boot for him to study. Bill, I don't recall the entire discussion, but you may also need to have the early retainer if you use the early boot. |

I agree John. That prairierust was sure a great numbers man. Up there with Clark Kent, Lois Lane and Lassie. However my Prts Cat is revised for the bellows page, 3-1-64. The late use of the 3 tier bellows probably is the using up of old stock and very much related to the Plant. You would expect KC to be building more SM clutch units and use more bellows given the products built at the facility. Buick skylark chevelle gto and chevelle truck(el camino) Chances are they originally stocked more and then depletion was later in the year.

What about 539632?? That is T-4, T-8, S.T. 61-63. Seems the boot was used in '63 also, or maybe farther back. "Bill"!

The matching retainer would be p/n 539855. However, the Illustration for the '61-'63 Tempest Bellows seal shows each of the 3 "folds" to be decreasing in dia. The '64 Tempest Bellows is illustrated as having 3 equal dia. folds. My own early '64 Bellows matches to the illustration, 3 equal dia. folds. The illustrations are usually pretty accurate representations of actual parts. There is no way for me to know if the '61-'63 illustration depicts the '63 bellows or perhaps the '61 bellows if there was a p/n change. Any change year to year would not be accurately illustrated if the illustration was originally specific to the 1st year of the run. I hope I am making that clear. Bottom line, if p/n 539632 has 3 folds of decreasing dia., then that is not the right piece. Whether the early seal was p/n 384239 (retainer 384240) as Prairierust found from Chevelle stuff or p/n 383752 (retainer 383753) as 8LUG found from the Olds site or neither, I don't have any way to know. I think the Metro piece was discussed earlier, it is not correct at all and doesn't fit the early retainer from what I recall being told. Did you check out the pic of the early '64 bellows in the earlier thread? The nipple at the end is torn (mine is torn off), but the 3 equal dia. folds are clear. I'd also love to discover the original early '64 bellows p/n. But I suspect having a repro made from a reasonably complete original may be the best course for those of us wanting the early '64 bellows. |
