bird emblem popped off my door panel
the bird emblem that covers up the window crank hole on the
passenger side door panel popped off yesterday. the stud and push on clip are still intact on the back of the emblem. It's been many years since I messed with the door panel on one of these cars. I assume that whatever spans the hole on the back side that goes over the stud on the emblem broke in two pieces. What holds these emblems on the back side of the panel.....a long plastic piece with a hole in the middle? |

It's a thin strip of metal that just bridges the opening with a hole for the pin in the middle...

Put a thin coating of silicone sealant all across the backside of that emblem, place it back on the door pad where it belongs, and secure it temporarily to the pad with two cross runs of masking tape,,,
Remove the tape after 24 hours, & you'll see that the emblem has effectively "glued" itself to the pad, & nobody will be the wiser except for you. Later on, if you wish, you can very easily remove the emblem by gently prying it free... |

I took off the door panel today and what happened is that the plastic
pin on the back of the emblem snapped off right where the metal bracket was pushed onto it. the stud was originally much longer before it broke off and I thought the stud was intact but in fact half of it was missing. I had some spare nos bird emblems and installed a new one.....problem solved. |

Ahhhhh, silicone is the modern day Duct tape. My Door panel emblems have been held in place for almost 2 decades now!
