72 Royal Bobcat Catalina ?
Has anyone heard of Royal doing a Bobcat conversion on a 1972 Catalina convertible. Someone in town has a car that he says has documentation as one . here are some pictures of the car .

Royal Pontiac in Royal Oak, Michigan, was sold around late 1969/early 1970, so it doesn't seem likely.

Of all the cars to make a Royal Bobcat out of, that may be the least likely candidate.

That paint scheme/color choice looks more like a Hurst/Olds than a Bobcat package.

Didn't George DeLoreran take over all of the 'Bobcat' kits when Royal sold out? Or did I just dream that?

YA, YOU WOULD THINK THEY USE A GRANDVILLE CONVERT.

I think someone liked the way the Hurst SSJ looked, and tried to duplicate it as a Catalina.
Ace Wilson Jr. got out of the high-performance business in 1969, so there were no more Bobcat cars after 1970. Royal Pontiac continued as a dealership until (I believe) around 1974. Milt Schornack wanted the rights to the Royal Racing Team, but was passed over for George DeLorean. Milt and Dave Warren left Royal Pontiac and went to work for George, but things didn't work out. George's conversions were more race-oriented instead of street-oriented. They had nothing to do with Royal Pontiac after 1970, they just used the name Royal because of the racing team, and I believe their club newsletter was still being circulated. I think a tiger tail looks a little silly on a 72 Catalina. The whole GTO 'tiger' theme was killed off way back in 1966, so tiger tails (to me) look silly on any post-1966 GTO, and especially on Firebirds. NO Firebird had anything to do with a tiger theme, as the Firebird came out in 1967. The tiger tail looks especially silly on a full-sized car, built 6 years after the 'tiger' theme died, and it's not even a GTO. My guess is that the owner did the PHS, and found the car was sold through Royal Pontiac in 1972 (as were hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of other Pontiacs), so he decided to make up a story that it's a Royal Bobcat car, but Royal Pontiac had stopped doing conversions years earlier.
