Can anyone give me the production #s for 68 GP? What are values like these days for a 68?

The Standard Catalog of Pontiac indicates 31,711 2-door hardtop coupes were made in 1968. Synchromesh transmission found its way into 306 of these, the rest had automatic transmission. Factory price was $3697.

No new vinyl top, as I re-painted the GP the same two colors as it was built with: Cameo Ivory over Mayfair Maize. I just finished installing the GTO's old tri-pwr 455, Doug's headers, 2.5" "X" pipe exhaust system with mufflers resonators, and a 2.93 posi rear. Moves out good .

The best way to handle the parts issue on the orphan 68 Prixs is to buy the best, and most complete, example that you can afford. After a cab hit my 68 while parked @ my home, I spent 8 months trying to find a driver's door for this one-year-only Pontiac before the insurance company approved the extra hrs. to repair the original. Many electrical items, and of course, the drive trains interchange with other models.

There is a member of the SoCal POCI (in Chino Hills, I think) that has a resonably priced good driver with extra parts for sale if you are interested. I would be happy to meet you and have a look @ it if you wish.

I did talk with this owner. It's a black plate CA car with a rebuilt 400.

I am tempted but having second thoughts about even going to look at the car tommorow and then getting hooked. I have a 66 GTO project waiting for me already after finishing up my sons' 69 FB. I'm thinking it just might be divorce court LOL for me if I drag home another Pontiac.

That's a very nice example of a 1968 GP. I think the 68 GP gets lost in the mix with the years before and after - almost like it never was made. It seems like many don't appreciate it for whatever reason, but I've come to think they are beautiful cars. There used to be a salvage yard within 30 miles of here that had 2 complete 68 GPs in it. A messy divorce gave the wife possession of the yard and she went crusher crazy for spite and now those 2 GPs are gone forever.

Those 8-lugs set the car off nicely. How about treating us to a underhood shot of your 68 and the "GP" etched in the window glass? The window etchings were a really classy touch in my opinion.

About 5 years ago I went nuts buying NOS chrome for mine. Being in WI since new my chrome has had most of its days seen. I had a hard time finding trunk emblems but they are made now. Also the rocker panel molding emblems are made and were the hardest to find. The rear 1/4 window moldings are a pain also if bad. well stainles was easy as the 67 and 68. Most of the chrome was some what easy but getting slim so probably not so today.

The wheelwell stainles was easy as the 67 and 68 share them if you are going to try with out the skirts then they are a pain Nos but easy to find used. I chose to go with out the skirts on mine. If the body and frame are solid, and interior are good go for it.

No body parts exept the floors are made for the interior section of the car. Also interior parts are slim. If you don't care for origionality you could use 67 seat covers that are being produced. Door panels you would have to have from 1968. I hope some of this helps.

And if you buy it and need help with anything let me know. I have most of the chrome part numbers and some extra parts around that might be of help.

If you aren't doing anything on this November 19th, come out to LACR and watch the final Pontiac Drag Days race, I plan to race the GP as I am still sorting out the new combo in the GTO. I missed the last race, but some guy from the Ventura area ran his full size Bonnie thru in the mid 13s a 100mph ! I got to see that.

Wow Les, That is one sweet car! The more I see of it the more I need to get mine done.
Mine has the GP glass in it I will try to get a pic of it. I really like the 8 lugs with the skirts maybe I am going to have to do some more shopping lol.
Also let us know what that GP runs if you race it. I did a best of 14.319 @ 92.99 mph and a 60 ft time of 1.974. That is with a race weight of 4300 pounds with driver.

Les, that is one fine Grand Prix! I was surprised at your comment about how difficult finding the correct door was. I checked my Hollander and, sure enough, they do show your car as having no others to interchange.

After further checking, I see the '67 GP HT shows no interchange also. I cannot imagine what the difference would be with all full size of '67-'68, except for the ventless glass. All full size '68's interchange on the front fender, also.

I thought all '67-'68 Grand Prix hardtops came with the etched glass. My book says these two years will interchange along with the 1968 Caprice, which obviously had no etchings.

If you can, try to look up the November issue of High Performance Pontiac. It was out in August and features an extremely low mileage (around 15,000) 428-4 speed Grand Prix in Verdoro green. A very nice car owned by a very nice couple who live out near me.

Even if your GP doesn't have the etched windows, that's still a very sweet automobile. I really like it. I would wager you've turned more than a few heads with it. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

I actually tried a 67 GP door; it fit the opening perfectly and matched the body style lines, but the hinge bolt-holes mis-aligned in the vertical dimension.

I have the HPP copy with that great low mile 68 GP in it. Sweeeet ride .
