DONT TAPE OVER IT!! I made that mistake and when I pulled the tape half the sticker started to come off, almost like it was delaminating. Fortunately for me, the paint (silver) behind was in good shape, so I very carefully put a piece of paper the size of the sticker directly on top, then taped that to the door with as little contact to the original paint as possible, about a 1/8" or less. I repainted with the same colour so the 'hard' edge didnt look too bad, but it is noticable. I made a repro for my 77 that looks very close to original so that part is possible, but in the case with the 79 as i mentioned i was more concerned with keeping the original in tact.
