Default '67 Backup Lights...

Fixing up my '67 to get it roadworthy. Question now is about the backup lights. Specifically, backup lights and a manual transmission. I know that '67-68 used a switch on the shifter to activate the backup lights, and I've got that part covered and ready. My question is, how do the wires route from the transmission into the passenger compartment to activate the lights? I presume the wires run up the side of the transmission along the same routes that the engine harness takes like the kickdown wire would on an automatic, but how do they exit that harness and get inside? The service manual not surprisingly has very little on the subject pertaining to electrical in these years. I'm sure a few guys with their manual transmission big cars would have an idea or at least be able to take some pictures.
