Hi John, I also did the same kind of thing you did.. Sold my '67 GP and Bonneville. Bought a '65 2+2 HO car. I found this car first then sold my other cars. Good luck on your search!!!! Scott

Default 71 Grand Ville Convertible

Added this to my fleet ....
A friend is having to reduce his holdings.
Has been on a storage lift for about 7 years. Gas was actually OK ...installed a new set of points and it fired right up. I'm going drive it a lot. :-)

Good looking Grand Ville! You'll like how they drive - I had a '71 Catalina for many years and it was probably the best highway car I've ever had. Your steering wheel is interesting, I don't believe they had a sport wheel option in 1971 for big cars so maybe it's off another model or year. It does look better than the standard wheel. A convertible would have had Morrokide vinyl seats as well, but those seat covers are nice too.

Very nice! Really like the 71 and 72 front end before the impact absorbing bumpers came out in 73.

The other thing that I always thought was neat on the 1971 cars were the louvers in the trunk lid that were part of the flow through ventilation. It was the only year they did that, and it gives them a little bit of a hot rod look.

Default 71 GV Convert

The 71 is now legal ....have put about 200 miles one her after a new set of WW's. I'm going to drive it as much as possible. One day I'll finish putting my 72 Cat Convert back together and maybe start on the 72 GV Convert ...but in the mean time ...a drop top to use !! Found a great original Draw-Tite receiver hitch off a 75 GV that I recently made a road trip to Dick B's in Wisconsin to pick up. I'm going to put it on the 71 so I can tow my used parts to Norwalk in style. :-)

Honestly I’m no fan of most 70’s Pontiacs but your 71 shows how the right condition, the right stance, the right options and of course the right condition make a car, it oozes the essence of the early 70’s, I could see James Taylor of Jim Croce buying your car when new! Very nice ride!

I know from experience that those 71-76 cars are great drivers, the suspension and structural updates were miles ahead of the 65-70 chassis.

Here's my 68 GP, 84K original miles, original interior with P/W, P/L, power drivers seat and antenna, passenger recliner, rare cloth/woven buckets and console, but strangely no a/c and an am radio with 1 speaker. Stored inside for 25 years before I had it. I have the original hubcaps but haven't put them on yet!

Nice car, interior looks great, even has the speed warning I see!

Back in the late 80’s I had a 68 GP out of Sacramento. It was Verdoro with no Cordova Top and a black bench. AC, PW, steering and brakes. The combo of the 400 4bbl, TH400 and 2.73’s made it a sweet Highway car!

Thanks for the compliment, yeah forgot to mention the "Safeguard" speedminder, also has optional cornering lights as well. Is the Safeguard a buzzer or a light? Mine is not working at the current time, but I did see a light come on once when I was on the highway. Funny there is no mention of it anywhere in the instruction book, other than pointing out the warning light location.

Safeguard is a buzzer, they rarely work. Also optioal and often ordered with safeguard was the extra warning light option... low fuel, headlights on and seat belt

Dropped the Gas Tank on the 71 a few days ago ...found the build sheet (and the one to the next car going down the line still attached) up on top ....Think this is the 1st time I've found one in this location. Already have the PHS ...but nice to find this. :-)

The big Pontiacs are so cool ! I've forgotten how much I love them.
I don't know how I missed this thread all this time?! I've got to start looking for one...as a keeper.

Lol...It's all your fault John : )

After I saw your awesome ride, it revived the "darkside" in me.

I have a feeling this is going to cost me more than I remember these big cars went for years ago. Like everything else, you wanna play...you gotta pay!

It's all good though. I need a classic that I can fit the family in, without their legs falling asleep.

Cheers
Stu

Still cheaper than a GTO or Trans Am...
