Legendary Package Tray Fit Issue
I bought and installed the 71 mesh package tray from Legendary. I folded the 'wings' that fit under the sail panels at each end along the slotted lines in the cardboard which is what I was led to believe is correct. With sail panels removed, the front of the folded wing near the seat back fits against the steel pillar nice and tight which is good. However, the rear of the wing near the rear window glass isn't snug against the steel pillar. I feel the angle of the slotted cardboard bend line is wrong. The same issue occurs on each side so both are similarly wrong. I didn't quite realize what this would do when the sail panels go back in since this is my first install of a package tray. When I reinstalled the sail panels, I found the sail panel stuck out further than it used to because the wing was preventing it from getting closer to the steel pillar. This also prevents the plastic trim pieces at the bottom corners of the rear glass from fitting properly as the sail panel sticks out further than it should. I have the jute and mesh tray both tucked nicely under the steel lip just below the rear glass so I feel they are installed to the proper depth. I had to 'massage' the wings flatter in the back corners before they swing up to make it a little better fit for the sail panel, but all the massaging has caused the fabric mesh glued to the cardboard to delaminate along the dotted line and now the mesh is puckered up which bums me out as I took my time to do this carefully. I'm definitely disappointed with the quality of the Legendary part at this point. Has anyone else had this problem?

I'm getting my new one sent tomorrow. Now you've bummed me out.... Hopefully I'll have better luck. My current is a OPGI one, and doesn't have the proper depth. Too short.

If I were to do this again, I would make a template from cardboard to look like the package tray and trim it at the correct angle for the bend lines to lay snug against the steel pillars. Then lay it on top of the repo tray to guide me on were the 'wings' should be properly bent. If the angle disagrees with the repo part, then so be it. Score the backside cardboard slightly with a blade along the new angle to relieve the bend and bend once to prevent mesh delamination and puckering.

Good to know. As my car is getting some metal and paint this winter I was going to replace the package tray as my rear glass will be out in my 70 GTO with legendary because I figured they had the best repro stuff probably going.

I went through the exact thing myself with my 70 GTO. Ordered one through legendary and it didnt fit correctly as described above. I think it was like 1 1/4" short nearest the window length. I talked to Ron there and sent him my original one for a template. Just got it today. Everything measures the same now to my original but I havent installed it yet. So anybody that needs one for the 70-72 a body legendary should now have the correct template.

I’ve done a couple of package trays, never had one that I didn’t have to trim.....somewhere

Mine didn't fit either. I just cut both ends (wings) off completely to fit flush, tucked under the ail panels.
