Default Where to get REAR SEAT FOAM

Awaiting arrival of new rear seat skins. Wondering where to get the seat foam (68 Firebird) from. I've read reviews of some products out there that weren't so good. Looking for recommendations.

Is the original really that bad? I dont think the rear seat in my 77 had ever been sat in. I bought new for the front and re-used the back.

That foam shrinks and deteriorates over time. Does not matter if the seat has been used or not. If you are replacing the vinyl I would replace the foam in both the front & rear seats if it were my car.

Call your local upholstery shop (doesn't need to be auto specific) - the place around here has tons of foam options, burlap, supplies, etc.

I am in process of having my 69 Firebird seats done. You can get the foam, cotton and burlap from places like Classic Industries, but what I got from classic industries did not have enough foam for both the bottom and back cushions for the rear. My upholsterer also mentioned that the foam that was supplied was not all that great.

I searched and searched for the back rest side specific foam and came up with nothing. Part of me wonders if there was not foam on the backrest from the factory.

Anyway, all that to tell you just to use your upholsterer's foam. They should have stock available of the foam, cotton, burlap etc. Have them charge you for the product. You'll likely end up paying about the same for superior material.

I know that Classic Industries is currently shut down and not shipping anything. Firebird Central does have the same or similar products and they are currently opening and shipping as of the 8th when I ordered front seat foams from them.

As far as supplies, including foam I have had good luck ordering from this place:

How did you like this cotton batting product. Obviously different from foam.

I'm planning on doing the same with my rears. This video was very helpful to me to be able to visualize what needed to be done.

Good Luck.

Some good idea such as using vinyl instead of burlap

I thought 1968 Firebirds were like 1970 Firebirds as far as rear seat construction was concerned;
They were a spring construction with burlap ontop the springs, and a little bit of sheet foam or cotton type material... no seat foam per say.

That's what I meant - foam to be cut to fit the rear seat.

Ok, if that's the case, just about any fabric shop worth going to should have rolls of it;
If you cannot find a local fabric shop, call a local upholsterer, odds are they will sell you some.

Yes - A store near me called Joann fabric has just about everything! I guess they are a chain store

Jo-Ann fabric, Michael's - any sewing/crafts type store will have the foam. You can also shop on ebay as well.

When I do mine, I'll try ebay first (online is usually a little cheaper than retail)

Also, you can usually find a decent electric knife at goodwill/thrift stores cheap- for this sort of project.
