Hola everyone! I justed joined this site yesterday and this full of helpful information an great stories.

First a little backround . My first car was a 1964 Impala 2 door HT with a 283/powerlide and it ran like stink( at least for high school) but in hindsight is not even near being safe to drive faster than 25 or so...few cars later a Crown Vic police car ('88 model--FI 351-nothing special) then not much until I bought a 04 GTO 6M and still have it. Silver with black leather. However my latest find is the best!

About a year ago I came across an excellent find. There was an old pontiac sticking out of a garage/old carport when I kept driving by it every other day. It's antique gold with no vinyl top--nothing fancy or Hi-po looking. however as the back was facing the road, I was not sure if it was a GTO, Tempest or Le Mans. Finally, curiosity got the better of me and I stopped by on my day off. As luck would have it, the older woman who answered the door mentioned that her son was willing to part with it and she had an old 1965 rambler that was her husband retirement gift from AMC back in the day. I asked if I could view the pontiac. she said sure, but she wasn't aware of any pricing. As I got closer I noticed the decklid said "GTO" , the taillamp lenses said 69 and the license plate had '83 tags on it!!! It was strait and Complete!!! The windshield was cracked a bit and the rear window was rusted at the bottom like all GM A-bodies do, however everything was there and no teenager had owned or messed with it. The drivers door opened easily and aside from dust and moldy smell it was like a time machine. Buckets, console, AM/FM, A/C, floor mats and everything else left in there from the early '80's. rear package tray was toast from sitting in the Texas sun for all those years. Did I mention this was located east of Austin, Tx about 5 miles, and had been here all it's life. I grew up in Iowa so anything that lasted over 20 years was exceptional and 30+ years, well, it was a VERY rare find. As I viewed the odometer it said 57,XXX miles! Now, popping the hood I expected to find either a missing engine or some *******ized remains of some replacement engine. I saw slighly rusty chrome valve covers(which were factory-issues on GTOs) and scraped off the gunk on the block to see the "YS" code for a 350 HP 400 GTO engine! Still had the factory dual exhaust and TH400 as well. all the tires were old, I mean old bias-ply Montgomery Ward whilewalls (built in 1975, as noted from the dot code on the back). on the factory 14" ralley II wheels.

Anyhoo, I bought it for <$1K and am now taking it apart to frame-off restore it!

And I woudl like to locate a 1969 Pontiac YS or YT coded Q-jet if possible. 350 HP 400 came in Grand Prixs, GTO, and Bonnevilles, if I remember correctly. Oh, and just to comfirm with the Potiac gurus out there, this should have a 067 cam, right? (it does have 62 heads too)

Anyway it's late and I am going home. I'll post some pics when I take some more.

Cheers,

Hey there technical people out there. The only pics of the GTO are in Jpeg format and it doesn't look like I can download Jpegs to this forum. Is the only way to do this require me to sign up for some 3rd party hosting to load my picks for a URL? Any thoughts?

You can download jpegs but need to restrict the size to 300K apiece. I do that easily with my camera software.

[QUOTE=dajudge_1970]True story... Will post pics if I can get near the car! There is a 69 RAIV 4 speed Judge rotting away in a field "round" my hometown. Been there for at least 15 years that I can remember.

Hey dajudge, you aren't talking about a carousel red 69 RAIV Judge in northeast Nebraska that is closed in and surrounded by trees are you?

Just curious!

This thread reminds me of the '67 427/435hp Corvette my father found behind a house in northern MA.

I wish had the pics of it behind the house, on railroad ties, frame rotted and the brakes frozen.

This is how it looked like once we got it home and we took the hood and engine out.

and now

That Edsel looks way to complete to be sitting there. Poor thing.

Nice pic.

Here are a few pics of a 68 HO Firebird i bought in NC. Thought I got a deal on it as the drivetrain is complete but once the PHS came back I found it was a plain ol Firebird that someone must have put the stripes on way back when. In this particular yard there are over 900 cars. I am in the process of buying more at the moment. I saw in there a T-37 which I had never heard of before. I'll see what other pics i have.... Shane...

Those old stripes will fool you everytime. I would have thought exactly the same thing with what you were looking at.

This 66 has been sitting since the 70's beside the house in front of the owners garage. It is 389, 360 horse 3x2 setup 4 gear close ratio, anyway the owner says that anything you get on it for race he got it. Yes i talked to him tonight he ordered the car back in the fall of 65. What a waste of a great car.

Here is a pic of a '71 T/A that I had purchased about 3 years ago. The car had been sitting in the same spot since 1983

1st pic is a '71 Formula Formula 350 (brown) with a factory 4 speed that I found in a tow yard for $800. The pic is after I cleaned it up and put Rally II's on it. The 2nd pic is a '74 Formula 455 (red)... original paint #'s match car that had been sitting in a garage for 12 years. I paid $3,000 for it. 3rd pic is a '66 Lemans convertible that I picked up for $1,800 and drove it home 65 miles. I bought and sold all of these within the last 2 years.
