Default 83 trans am engine swap

Is it possible to put a pontiac 400ci into a 83 trans am? It originally came with the chevy 305ci, but that has crapped the bed. Will the factory motor mounts work or will new ones have to be fabricated? Is there an adaptor for this? My brother wants to do this swap so any info will be very helpful. Thanks

I have seen many different engines installed into thirdgens.
You may want to post over on:

Hope this helps,

George

I've even seen magazine write-ups on this, I'm sure it's snug, but doable. Had thoughts about doing it to mine, but that will be a while...

It's not that hard, ...i have a 400 in my 84...i did it 8 years ago before anyone made engine mounts or headers for the swap...i made my own mounts and modified a set of headers, then made a trans crossmember for the th-400....easiest thing to do is give Indian Adventures a call or go on the website....they make headers and mounts that bolt right to the existing...we useed them on a friends 87 TA,...very nice stuff....or save some money and make your own...74' and up f-body mounts work, have to relocate frame mounts....68-72 a-body headers are close....collectors have to be moved and #3 tube moved.....Chiefmanyhorses.com....for Indian Adventures,...hope this helps, Billy
