I was planning on doing my own. Then I got the body manual and read the instructions to change the top. If you have no experiance with uhpolstery, and I do not. Pay someone who does to do the job. Getting a top on without wrinkles is not as easy as it sounds. You are better off paying the money on this job.

That said, make sure you find a first-rate shop that does tops all the time. I had a professional shop botch a top years ago. Particularly make sure they use the correct weatherseal at the top of the windshield. Another area that is sometimes done wrong is the tension on the top fore and aft. Too tight and it'll take Arnold Schwarzeneger to close the top clamps.

Last summer I bought a new top and pad for my '63 and had planned to do it myself, until I read about how it is done. There is an upholstery lady just two miles from my house so I asked her if she would install it and she said yes, for $500. I dropped off the car last Friday so she and her husband could do it over the weekend. She called Sunday evening and said it was finished.

The job looked pretty good and I was happy not to have gotten into it myself. When I got home I tried to raise the 1/4 windows and found that they dig into the new roof rail weather strips and found the shop manual saying the "Male Hinge Assy" needs to be adjusted. These folks are not mechanically inclined so I figured I would see what is involved. My biggest concern is, can the adjustment be made now that the top is stapled in place? Has anyone every made this adjustment?

If I understand your situation clearly the answer is probably not. All of the folding top frame to side glass "rough in" adjustments should have been done prior to taking the car over for a new top. There is ( I think) an adjustment at the pivot point mounting (each side) to inner quarter sheet metal where you might be able to slightly lower the effective height of the quarter glass.

How did this happen in the first place? Had the entire folding top assembly been taken off of the car?
