'61 Pontiac "Monte Carlo" showcar v. Stan Long SD
I was just "admiring" this photo of the Pontiac Monte Carlo showcar and thought the hood looked familiar...
I wonder if this is where Stan or one of the early owners got the idea to put louvers in the aluminum hood of his Super Duty coupe. (The hood on the showcar is obviously steel - lol!). Comments? K

After reading thru the link you posted yesterday and being reminded of the Monte Carlo, I thought maybe you were asking a different question in this thread.
As to the louver idea, might make sense, but weren't louvered hoods a general popular hot rod thing back to the '50s or even earlier? Might make more sense to thiink that both the Monte Carlo & the Stan Long SD may have been influenced by the general popularity of this "trick" rather than one being directly influenced by the other. The question I thought you might raise was whether the Monte Carlo figures to be more valuable than an SD (such as the one recently uncovered). After reading about the Monte Carlo yesterday, that thought crossed my mind. My own conclusion would be that the Monte Carlo might be at least as valuable. For me, the fly in the ointment for the MC is the swap to the 215 V8 from the show car M/T supercharged Pontiac 4 banger when it was given to Ed Cole. If it had retained the original engine, the value would go way up in my mind. |

Wow, if they were sitting on a '63 hood it would look like they were in a hammock. They must have had some SuperDuty reinforcing under that hood.
