Extremely Rare 4bbl. fuel system
It seems a large majority of 64,65,66 factory 4bbl. carburetors/intakes have disappeared in favor of the famous 3x2’s.
For decades a typical eBay ad says “4bbl. swapped out for Tri-Power”. A question was posed to me about the aluminum fuel line for the factory AFB Carb. There were actually (3) different lines used for these three year GTO’s. For the 1964 through the first half of 1965 the fuel line had (4) bends in it. Roughly the last half of 1965 it had (5) bends in this aluminum line. The 1966 4bbl. line was a simple 90 degree made of aluminum or steel. Chris.

The AFB carbs had the fuel filter inside the fuel inlet. No “in-line” filters were used from the factory.

Chris, The 1965 cars with air conditioning cars do get the in line filter....that's where the return line comes from too. I believe the 64 and 66 cars also have the inline filter. My question is, does the carb still get the brass filter if you have the in line filter?

I stand corrected! You are correct about the Air Condition cars. I’m not sure if these cars also get the small brass filter.

What surprises me about the Pontiac fuel line systems is the amount of rubber fuel line used between the pump and the carb. All my Chevy fuel systems are steel from pump to carb.

so impossible to have a bronze filter along with the inline filter in 1964. 1966 carbs is have the large filter boss on the airhorn so a place is there for a filter but all that I have seen on the Tri-Power cars were not using the bronze filter only the 2 bbl stuff. Tom V.

So there is “another” GTO on auction with a Tri-Power, but originally came with a 4BBL. Cool, makes the 4BBL. a rare car indeed.
