I'm sure there is still interest in this project. My November '63 build Tempest Custom will be going to a 4-speed set-up. I am interested in one set if this project ever comes to fruition.

The plan is for an exacting reproduction of the rubber boot.

You will need to reuse your original matching steel retainer.

The steel retainer was changed when the 2 rib boot was introduced as chrisp mentioned earlier in the thread.

I was not planning to reproduce the steel retainer although I'm figuring it would be an easier part to produce.

But I really need a better boot example. Anybody here close to Don that could maybe get with him to ask about it and/or maybe help him retrieve it?

I would think that the base of the boot could be used as a template to make the retainer plate.

Chad, that would be awesome if you have a good 3 rib to use.

Let me know. My son might could pick it up, I will be seeing him next weekend.

HFR, I saw that one advertised a couple months ago. Would have considered it except it is about the same condition as my original, the nipple completely gone.

I found the one I was thinking of. It's not brittle or anything, so would probably work for reproducing?

Chad, I responded by email. For everybody else, project will be moving forward.

I hope there will be some demand as I'd like to recoup the cost to model it.

Remember the 3 rib boot will only fit in the metal retainer if you have the original one , the 2 rib metal retainer id is different .

I have my original steel retainer so I was only needing to reproduce the rubber boot.

Haven't really thought about those that would want to use the 3 rib boot but don't have the correct retainer.

I'll work on the boot first but if it looks like guys will need the retainer also, I'll look into that later.

Some of us at the www.65GS.com site will likely be interested! Some of the '65 GS's used the 3 rib, and some used the 2 rib.

I'd be in for two for my 65 GS. Excited that this is going forward!
