70 T/A Which Brake System?
Progressing with the complete restoration of my 70 T/A and need to decide on Brakes. The car has the correct and original 3, brake valve components (Proportioning valve, hold off valve and ? valve ) that mount under the M/C. Since I never drove the car B4 the tear down I have no idea if these 3 components function properly or not. I understand they are not available reproduction or otherwise. One option is to replace the Booster and MC and put it together and hope those 3 items work ok. Or, I can go with the 1971 and up system which only uses the proportioning valve and not the other two items. I realize using the 1971 system is not correct in appearance but it would be sure to work properly as it would all be new. Any thought or advice on what I should do w/o breaking the bank? Thanks

I had the same though on my 70 car . I went with the Welwood disc system . But in making the decision of what to do .I found that all the components are available including the brake lines . Inline Tube and The Rite Stuff have the components except the delay valve . That is the valve that causes a slight delay in pressure to rear brakes . This was meant to stop premature rear brake lock up.
I did not do it but I understand that all three valves can be taken apart and cleaned and put back in service. |

Does anyone know a service that can repair the 3 valves or is there a service manual on this? Thanks

Whitepost in Virginia does a great job. They have done several MC’s for me and also did the prop valve on the Black Car. Great work and quick turnaround.

Update
I used a local "old timer" brake specialist here in Atlanta to rebuild all 3 valves for me. He said they were very gummed up but sleeves were not needed. Took one week and the cost all in was $170. I wont be ready to install system for a month or so and I hope they work fine.
