Default Challenger II sold...

I can't believe nobody is talking about the Challenger II selling? $510,000 bought it, very cheap but the IJMO. 561,000 with buyers premium. My understanding is that was for Truck, trailer and the streamliner.

The bar has been raised. Now,if its not worth $3.4M, been in a movie and driven by Steve McQueen, its just another car crossing the block.

Yeah really should have brought more, but I read that Danny really didn't want to sell the car, but had to! I guess he went into heavy debt to finish the car and all the expense of travel and making the record run, after a few folks who were going to help financally backed out.

I heard the same thing. It's surprising he couldn't get some good backing but that's the thing about Bonneville , no sponsors. Sure as hell put up a big MPH in the end.

I spoke to Danny at the auction. They were selling it to start to raise money to build a new car. He wants the 500 mph record! Great guys to talk to, they spoke to us for about the car and the challenges for about 15 minutes. They were there standing around and it looked like people were afraid to approach them.

It's a great story and a wonderful accomplishment. I followed the entire ordeal as closely as a typical fan could. I was so happy he accomplished his goal. In most cases, no matter how cool or accomplished, used race cars bring 25-35% of what they cost to build. That's something the owner/racers understand before they begin in most cases. To me the value of the this piece of real racing history vs some clapped out Mustang used in a movie are reversed. Obviously, people bidding on the Mustang didn't agree.
