Default My Opportunity

The father/kind of mentor of a longtime friend of mine has always been a Pontiac man and he’s starting to downsize.

He bought a 1969 GTO Judge back in the late 80s and it’s been in his garage ever since.

It’s numbers matching except there is no original block to go with it but he has a 455 and a 400 for it.

The body was removed and the frame was painted and a 12 bolt rear end was added with front disc brakes.

It’s an automatic car but he has a brand new standard transmission and for the life of me I cannot remember the brand at the moment.

It has all the new interior components minus the foam to go with it (it needs to be completely installed) and the body was painted but since it’s been deemed up in the storage for several years it needs a very good touch up painting.

15K

I know it might be kind of a pie in the sky question but is this a really good deal just reading from what I stated?

Yes, even if it's just a GTO. Does he have the PHS?

Sounds good to me. What can you buy for that money these days, plus the extras...

If the car is rust free and a real Judge, it's an excellent deal. If just a GTO, it could be a fair deal. Looks like an excellent project.

Looks like a good deal to me as well, although if the original engine block and transmission are gone it's not numbers matching.

Are the two engines, “built”?
Any other transmission parts included? Bell housing, linkage, shifter?
Disc brakes, 12 bolt and painted frame seem like good signs. I’d hope all the steering stuff is new...
If the paint can be saved, that would be good, a good paint job would be over $15,000.
The numbers matching part would not bother me, I’d rather have the 455.

I’m not a numbers matching guy, either - but it sounds like this car is “numbers matching - except for the engine, transmission, rear end and front disk brakes?”

Basically without the original engine a 69 is not "numbers matching" and without the rear end it's just the original body and frame. Not saying it's not a decent deal, just don't be swayed by the "number matching" claim ... that does not apply in this case.

Ya, I feel like a goober saying numbers matching.

The two engines he has, have been stored however the 455 block did get exposed to the climate and I believe it rusted the cylinders.

I’m not big on the numbers matching thing myself.

I enjoyed the heck out of my 1970 GTO Judge clone but I had to sell it back in 2008 when everything hit the fan financially at that time.

I have been Pontiacless since.

We will see what happens.

If the owner has the PHS, that would be a huge help. If your serious about buying it, see if he will give you the VIN and you can get the PHS at your expense. It's not that expensive and then you know for absolute sure what you have, A real Judge, a real GTO or a Le Mans. No matter what, a rust free car with the parts you describe in good condition would be worth the price. But it's always nice to know.

It’s worth every penny of 15,000 if it’s clean.
