Default Neil Peart RIP

Just heard he passed on Tuesday at age 67 from brain cancer. Such an incredible talent.

‘Working Man’ was one of my favorite songs after I graduated in ‘79 and started working 60-70 hours a week in the machine shop.

A true loss to the rock world.

When I was a kid, a guy in our neighborhood got a bunch of Rush cassettes from his older brother. This was probably 1988 or so. The guy didn't want them, so he sold me all 12 Rush cassettes for $14. I only knew Tom Sawyer at the time, but I spent hours and hours listening to those cassettes, 2112 and Hemispheres in particular, and now I know the words to every one of those Rush songs by heart.

It doesn't get any better than Rush. They are definitely an acquired taste, but anybody that takes the time to give that band a chance will be rewarded with years of listening to great music.

Poor guy. He lost his daughter in a car accident, and then his first wife to cancer, and now this.

Think it can be argued that he may have been the best drummer ever. "The Professor" also wrote the lyrics to most of their songs. He was a genius who happen to play drums. Huge loss to the rock world. RIP Neil.

I think it's nearly a consensus that he is the best drummer ever.

I’m glad I got to see them play several times; that guy was a remorseless drumming machine.

Big loss, RUSH one of my favorite bands. Neil's technical and precise drumming style... MINDBLOWING.

Just learned about this couple hrs ago...
I was lucky to see Rush 10 times maybe more in 40 yrs . The man was magic with the sticks and his solo performances would make your jaw drop.
My son who got drums at 14 was told to look him up. I bought us tickets and on his 55th birthday he played . The man didn't even break a sweat, just so efficient . My boy never forgot that...it was his first concert and also mine at his age to see the same band....
Im cranking up there stuff tommorow ....sad.

This is so sad. Such a loss of a great drummer. It was bad enough arthritis made him leave the band.

I never listened to Rush that much before last summer. I was at my 50th High School class reunion and had nothing to do the first night back home. Rush came on the PBS station and I couldn't tear myself away. Sat and watch them for over 2 hours. Now I can't get enough of their music.

RIP Neal.

Impressed by the 1969 Working Man song. Had the album& sold it. Never got, don't own any RUSH. Yet i acknowledge the excellent compositions from a trio; excellent Bass Player, Guitar, and tastful Drumming.

Why, why. why didnt i get into Rush? they were fantastic. Am i the only one?

I read that Neil Peart would not ride in the Tour Bus with the Band, but rather ride his motorcycle to the next show because he enjoyed the open road. ..kinda cool

RIP Neil, and Thank you for the music

After losing his wife and daughter, he bought a motorcycle and started taking long road trips o try to clear his head, and then figured out he really liked riding. So, when they went on tour they'd load his bike up, and he'd take it out and ride from one venue to the next when there was a good stretch of road.

He also collected cars, and raced a Jensen-Healey sports car in the 24 hours of Lemons.

A friend shared this link earlier of one of his fantastic solos. I only saw RUSH once back in 1986 or 87, they were on the Power Windows tour. RIP Mr. Peart and thank you for the music and memories!!

No,i never got into Rush either, although i can appreciate there music, and Neil Peart was an amazing drummer,no doubt about it.
Everyone has there favorite bands. Most people think Metallicas Black album was there best, even though i can't stand it. That is not to be said about there masterpiece,Ride the lightning.

Rip Neil.

Been a huge Rush fan ever since I bought Permanent Waves at age 13. Saw the R40 tour a few years back and it was amazing. Unlike most dinosaur acts, the band sounded fresh and hadn't missed a beat - playing with the same technical excellence that characterized their entire career. RIP, Neil Peart.
