More update photos. The trans tunnel is in. I have never done any fabricating so I am pretty proud of this. The turbo 400 fits like a glove in there.

Right now I am fabricating the trunk floor to accept a fuel cell sumped through the floor.

I am not as far as I had hoped to be by now but it is coming along. I am expanding my business into a new market and we have a new baby due next friday...time is not on my side right now.

Another update or should I say warning...

Since this delema is now over, I am going to give everyone a big heads up.

Wheels can be a major issue when building these cars. Building a SD clone requires plain steel narrow wheels on the front and wider plain steel wheels on the back. So instead of searching high and low for wheels that would fit I called Stockton Wheel in California and ordered custom backspaced 8x15x4.5 for the back and 5x15x4.5 for the fronts. I set my rearend in place and did a wheel mockup to get the back spacing right. Every thing is cool right...Wrong.

I receive the 8" wheels first and attempted to put them on the car. They will not fit. So I measure the lug spacing and it is 4.75x5. My order ticket that came with them is correct. So I call.

I get this guy on the phone that is not sure what happened and is as surprised as I am, so he puts me on hold. This older gentlemen picks up the phone and as soon as he does starts yelling at me. "I changed that order in the shop, NO Pontiac Tempest ever came with 4.5" bolt patterns"..."You ordered wrong or you are trying to pull a fast one"..." I owned one brand new and it had a corvair bolt pattern" I literally got into a verbal altercation with this guy about the wheels that I had ordered. He refused to fix the problem saying that "I must have changed something to have a 4.5" bolt pattern"

Finally after emailing this AHOLE multiple links from the web outlining the bolt pattern, he agreed to make what I ordered. He did not admit fault but made me new wheels.

The intial order for the wheels was placed on Nov 7th of 2005. I received the last two wheels two weeks ago.

If you have to order from Stockton Wheel be prepared for mistakes, rude service, run arounds, and plain lies!

Consider yourself warned.

After you get your new rims let them know they lost 2 customers, not just one... so far. It's a shame cause it's not easy finding a shop that will mod steel rims.

The car looks good. When do you expect it to be on the road?

Did you attempt to use Stockton as well? They are awful to deal with. I hardly ever use this word but they are pure liars plain and simple.

On the road? I am not sure that by the time this thing is done, it is going to be much of a road car. Having said that, I have nearly everything outside the small stuff to finish it. I hope to have it in paint by Jan 1st. and ready for the summer of '07. Right now it is Norwalk '07 or bust...

The seats were redone from scratch using the original fabrics acquired from SMS fabrics in Oregon. There are no re-popped seat covers available...now that I think of it, there is nothing re-pop for these cars.

Nice work on the trans tunnel!

Do you have any pictures of where the front ladder bar mount is welded in? I'm curious as to how high up in the body you were able to install it. I'm also curious to see where it ended up with your 33 1/2" ladder bars since I will be using 32" Chassis Engineering bars on mine.

Do you plan on installing a roll bar/cage? I'm going to check on the progress of my '63 at the chassis shop after work today. If my cage is done, I'll post some pics.

I will put the car up on jack stands this weekend and take some photos of the front ladder bar brackets that I had made and where they sit.

I do not plan on a cage right away. If the car is fast enough where it can't run without one I will have one installed. I dont think that it will be. I want this car to be setup as they were back in the day.

So we will see.

Keep up the good work. You'll get there, it just takes a little more time than what you plan, especially with little one's.

The bottom of the car is detailed and the interior floor is done. The car goes next week to the chassis shop for drive shaft, pinion angle, and weld check.

Since these pictures were taken, the body has been blasted and etch primed. I will have pictures of that soon.

New goal is to be at Goodguys in Indy in June.

Where's the panhard bar on that rear? I'm looking for it but I can't find it. Without it, you're going to have problems with it walking "port to starboard" in the car when using just the ladder bars to locate the rear.

What a douche the Stockton wheel guy was, changing your custom order like that without telling you.

Post #33 center picture right hand side of the center section. You can see the bracket for the panhard bar...believe me, it's there.
