Default Estimated price of cam

I'm with Keith on the cam orders. Depending on price, I'd be interested in possibly two or more, and I can talk to the other guy here in town that owns one, he may want to upgrade his as well. One guy in Carson City races these motors, I can see if I still have his contact as well. Estimated price would greatly determine my commitment!!$150-220 each??

If you can "up" the lobe profile a bit put me down for 2.

It looks like the interest is back up. I will hope to have the details worked out in the coming weeks.

Thanks.

I may be willing to jump in on this too,are we talking flat hydraulic,or flat solid lobes?

I'd kinda prefer some flat solid lobes myself, but could go hydraulic if need be.

I agree with a few of the other guys,I'm also kinda wanting something "snottier" for mine.
(Read:more duration/higher lift/tighter LSA.)

I too might be inclined to get two or three if not too much $$$,one for higher compression NA use,and a milder one for lower compression & boost, the other???

I'll try to keep an eye on this thread.

I am in - depending on what the specs would be. I'd be looking for a nice bump up from stock but not a full race set-up.

I am ready next week. Any news on the cams, or blanks even?

Sorry, I'm just curious...

Why wouldn't you just use a regular (V8) cam?

Doesn't that 4 cylinder use a crank which is essentially the same as one for a V8? (stroke/timing)

I was looking at one of these engines last week monday... had a ported 670 head and a custom fabbed intake - prettty neat setup, and it was really weird to see the cam there with half of the number of lobes as what I'm used to.

Jonny, the V-8 cam would work if you use a V-8 crank with dummy rod ends in the 1, 3, 5 and 7 holes. The difference is 45 degree firing versus 90 degree on the 4 banger.

Jonny, The V8 has rod throws at 90 *, the 4 cyl is at 180*, V8 cam wont run in a 4 cyl, would have to use cam & crank from a V8 for it to run.

You guys are funny!

Thanks for the info... when I was typing my initial post I started thinking that it would make sense for the crank to be set up differnt for everything to work, so that makes sense.

does/has anyone run a V8 crank with dummy weights?

that's a cool little engine

Default Any progress?

I realize this topic seems to have withered away a while ago , fall of the economy was no help, but, has there been any progress with production of these cams?

Looks like I may have a flat lobe in number four on one of my motors. Bummer.Apparently, that was a reason for parking it so long ago. I thought the previous owner just couldn't figure out the fact that his firing order was in wrong rotation. Must have been a chevy guy. doh!! I imagine that isn't a candidate for a regrind.

I know its stupid money BUT why not HYd roller cams?BOP and Comp have round billets and they can be ground to anything you want? With modern oils and the HUGE PITA when a flat tappet cam goes south it would be way cheaper in the longrun.JMHO,Tom

Default 4cyl distributor gear same as v8 cam gear?

Tin tigr and Toms, many thanks for your replies.

Tin, I'll be messaging you soon regarding your cam. May be nice to have a round ad maybe use on a four barrel engine build.

Tom, I'm curious, the suggestion of the roller hydraulic cam is inticing, and I agree, that it would be worth it in the long run. My concern is if the distributor gear on a four cylinder camshaft is different than an eight cylinder camshaft as thye woul dbe grinding from an eight cylinder blank.

thanks again

scott

I just couldn't get enough people to commit to making the cams cost effective.
