No doubt, this car represents an important part of Pontiac racing history, and it is nice to know it will be saved from the crusher. Sunday is the last day for this auction, and the last minutes should be pretty wild to watch. I doubt if I'll be able to hit the refresh button fast enough to keep up with all the last minute bidding.

If this body (with vin tag) brings this kind of $$$$$#$ I would think if the owners with the front clip and motor( if they exist ) would want some real crazy money from the new owner with the deep pockets. Couldn't really blame um.

JUST bid again on it,and well again got out bid at 90K? This car is priceless in the PONTIAC community.I wish the winner the best, and cant wait to see it back to it's original race condition,as I must back out at this point.Good luck to the new owner!

Restore it with the trans axel? Or the way "HE" wanted to race it? Did he not want the rope shaft? Or the transaxel 4speed? Was the factory not good enough? They only raced a year or two. John

Jim Christenson and Bud Brownell told me that Jim's car was under warranty at the time and when they finally used up all the warehouse supply of SD auto 4-speed and tranaxle parts (3.90:1), they put a 1957 Pontiac station wagon leaf-spring rear with a 1958 Pontiac big car center section 4.33:1 under ex-749/AFX. Never had another rear end problem, although it did not go any quicker with the 4.33:1.

Craig,
You are saying they told you their SD race car had a warrantee? geeesh. Pontiac was not going to make on $$$ on that deal.

Yes, that was the deal. Jim also financed it through GMAC or whatever the equivalent was at the time!
