Putting aside the reliability of the 2x2speed transaxle, I wonder where one would get one today? As you stated about reliability and I stated above, Jim Christenson had to install a 57 live axle in his since the Pontiac factory could not keep the original in operable shape. It certainly was a creative deal from an engineering standpoint!

the 5 transaxles I know about are all spoken for.1 is broke and needs a main shaft and is not forsale to my knowledge. The reason I sold mine is it has no differintial. It has a sold bar of steel hooking the two axles together.Looked WAY to hard to make it drivable so I sold it.I helped setup the front end and the transaxle for the new owner today so I think it will be a great project to watch unfold.Tom

Anyone verify the 63 plate on the car to be original legitimate tag to car? Considering no roll bar, any guesses to last time on track or running under it's own power? Discounting motor and nose, seems like a lot of original key stuff still there and generally good shape. Stan's reaction to all of this?

After seeing this I wonder if anyone wants the 69 NASCAR GP I have in about the same condition...Unfortunately the car was a supreme DOG as opposed to SD Tempest. NOt that I'm interested in selling, I'm not, just curious to think what this old car would be worth after seeing the Tempest auction.

Got to love old junk going back to its original glory, sooner or later.

I don't think the GP would do well in the auction and is not comparable to a SD Tempest. In fact, nothing can really compare to a SD Tempest though a SD 421 Catalina would come close.
The SD Tempest was the Zenith from a short time in history when Pontiac was making race cars and very competitive ones at that ( to say the least ).
The main collectables tha are bringing the big moola are factory high end race cars, proto type stuff and things associated with performance companies that were tied to auto manufacurers like Mickey Thompson, Holman-Moody, Landy, Sox & Martin, etc.

I printed the auction info and slipped it into my copy of petes book....now we are just missing the history of the car in its period when it was "missing"...for example why, when and where was the alum front end and the engine removed?...This is going to make a great story!
Hopefully I will see this car someday as its owner is now on the east coast, also I would love to see Toms old 69 Trans Am!...and I wonder what he has planned for all the RamAir V stuff hes accumulating.??

I just saw the story on our local Fox news. The news anchor justified the price based on there only being 6 "Lemans Tempests" made in 1963.
