IMHO, front end only has a real value when it is on the correct original car. Current owner probably wanted losts more for it then the new one being made will cost!!!

When you say 'new one being made'. I take it by hand and hammering.Thats got to take some talent. The closest thing I witnessed was a Jeep pickup being made into an 4door extenda cab. This was mid 70's.

Wonder how much of this car will end up being origianal? I know Scott purchased another 63. I am sure it will be fun to check it out when finished.

Default Randy's craftwork

I was thinking that it would be Randy Ferguson doing the aluminum fabrication. I've seen some of his excellent work first hand this past summer, he was mocking up some lighweight parts (front fenders) for a 1962 Chevrolet. Very strong attention to detail! I know he's also done some sets of 1963 front end parts for a Z-11 build (as I recall).

Just like a lot of things, the first one off the line is VERY pricey, but once the "buck" is made the process becomes more routine. It's still a HUGE amount of work to make them look perfect, which I am sure he is striving for .

Am I correct in that it was the 1962 Pontiac that was designated as the "Lightweight"? Did the 1963 Swiss Cheese cars have aluminum front ends? I'm talking factory parts here.

Cheers!

Unlike you, John is a true Pontiac enthusiast and he isn't a flipper who's into Pontiacs just to make a fast buck.

Good things take time.

scott m-i was the FIRST person to see this car when it was auctioned on ebay. scott got there the day after me-looking for john. i know john and talk to him usually at least once a month. the question was NOT about flipping the car. the question was-when will this car be finished??? i would think that 13 or 14 months would be plenty of time-if you are actually, and steadily-restoring ANY car. but i really want to thank you for YOUR expertise.

I didn't offer any.

I stated the differences in why real Pontiac enthusiasts take their time versus why Tony Cappucino carlotters/flippers rush things.

Thanks for the info Mkeith I missed that post. Amazing work. I hauled alum. bumpers back from Ohio for a 61 full size Pontiac back in 70-71.

Agreed, certainly less if worked on 40 +/- hours a week. That is assuming that all the required parts and sub-contracting are timely for the project. With a 69 Camaro or 67 Mustang, that is relatively easy. There isn't much that you can't buy any day, any time to supply project need. The 63 SD is not quite the same. Unless the owner was already sitting on top of a pile of NOS 63 Lemans and SD parts or loudly and vigorously waves the wallet to flush out everyone elses stock pile...parts will hold up the project. That is, if this is a true "restoration".

Nothing new here but the project timeline is impacted by shop scheduling, sub-contracting, parts procurement, man-power resources, space availability, shop cash flow, project cash flow, rework, natural disasters.

This is a neat find. I wish I was a little more savy as I saw the auction when it was first listed for relatively dirt money, wish I knew and jumped on it. It will be neat to see it done!

You left out "or as scheduled by the desires of the owner."

How much of the original car could be/was used/saved?
With the front end now being recreated. Then another solid 63 was purchased off epay
(a nice solid gold car if I recall) and it has been stated that the original car was far worse than first thought, i.e. floor 1/4 trunk windshield channel etc all bad.
How would you classify this car at this point? Original or Recreation?
